Reading the question first allows you to isolate your attention on/in the passage.

On question 3 I interpreted the promt as the iris and pupil filtering light that already entered the lens because of how it was written

I looked up the anatomy to understand it better and it makes more sense now. What got me tripped up is me thinking Iris and pupil was a process and not a part of the eye. If you catch what I am saying.
