Hey man, i also discovered this show during quarantine 2 years ago, and like yourself, i also stayed up late nights studying to these Durarara soundtracks as well as other anime osts that gave me the same feeling durarara did. I also resonate with your feeling of watching and remembering this show and associating it with a happy lonely yet somber feeling. I remember the whole time watching durarara, i took the experience of ikebukoro for granted. As soon as the show finished i felt so sad, like a woke up from a nostalgic dream of when i was younger, or that I lost something very important to me. No other anime will ever be like durarara. This song reminds me of the first time I watched this show when I was in sixth grade. Almost a decade ago, I stayed up on a Saturday night to find DRRR on Adult Swim. The atmosphere immediately pulled me into the show with only one episode (even tho I didn't really know what was happening lol), and it wasn't until way later in my life that I matured and actually had a genuine interest in introspective, dialogue-heavy, and abstract media that I really started watching it. Gotta thank Adult Swim for introducing me to such a beautiful and interesting story. Unfortunately, I stopped watching DRRR a couple years ago after midway through x2 (high school workload had me fucked up lol). Stumbling across this song makes me wanna keep watching though

The effect of this song at its' strongest was Mikado's confrontation with Namie Yagiri. A kid does not stand a chance against an adult with a strong underworld connection. Normally. But then again, I get chills because the fun thing about any character in this show is that anyone who _seems_ normal is by NO means normal. Until that point, you never really banked on the viewpoint character you started this series with being any more significant than the almost faceless and *colorless* crowd of people pacing back and forth down Ikebukkuro's thoroughfare. But Mikado Ryugamine is *anything but normal,* and this isn't because of what he _can_ do, this show wants to emphasize that every person you meet in any place you go, they all have something to hide, they are NOT what and who they appear to be at first glance. You just have to dig a little deeper.

I couldn’t cry because I knew our relationship was gonna be temporary given our age at the time and that we were going to different schools. Deep down it hurt, though. I remember how this soundtrack’s chimes seem to lift away the sting of my first breakup, how it seemed to prevent me from tearing up about it, and how it lulled me to sleep every night. Durarara and Gintama were my comfort animes back then. ❤
