Durasid is the perfect aesthetic cladding for side faces, gables, bay windows, dormers, garden sheds, pool houses and other constructions. Durasid offers a wide range of applications for both new-build and renovations projects.
The Durasid cladding profiles are made from a rigid foam core covered with a durable, co-extruded top coat. Inside the top coat, a decorative wood grain texture is applied, so that Durasid combines the best of all other facades.
Durasid has the charm and appeal of natural wood plus the ease of maintenance of plastic, which has allowed it to quickly establish itself as a smart and fully-fledged alternative to other other external wall coverings made from commonly used materials.
Durasid retains its initial visual aspect and appeal for much longer than any wooden exterior cladding or a facade in a different material, which often tend look weathered and lose their appeal as time moves on.

I think a major new application for retrofit cladding is going to be fire protection (thinking of Australia, California, etc). But it’s not really being designed and tested for it. Hope that changes soon. The classic Craftsman bungalow is a good example. How to retrofit all that wood siding and overhanging eaves without totally changing the character of the house!

I searched for 'How to install siding on concrete'. Thank you for this helpful video. Someone commented that this method is not good for brick walls, which remains to be researched. I found on your video that you screwed the siding too tiedly, as they need moving while expanding and retracting, especially for us in North America as we have weather conditions fluctuationg between -30C in winter up to +39C in the summer. Either way, I found my answer. Thank you, again.

In the USA we call this stuff vinyl siding, and it doesn't get a lot of respect. I wouldn't call it maintenance free, since it collects, or at least shows dirt a lot faster than brick. It would usually be considered as odd to cover a brick wall with the stuff as it would be to cover leather car seats with cellophane, though I understand that brick is considered more of utilitarian material over there than here and that old brick buildings can be a maintenance headache. The stuff we use doesn't warp very fast unless concentrated sunlight (from a concave window), or heat from a gas grille hits it, but it gets brittle as it ages and usually needs replacement after 25 to 40 years.
@bighands69
@bighands69 6 жыл бұрын
That brick looks horrible. It is not nice looking and looks really really cheap. Maybe where you come from the US brick is seen as something of Luxury. In the UK that sort of brick is everywhere and looks really really cheap. It is not some fancy brick that people things of but an industrial cheap brick that was used for poverty areas. The fine fancy brick you are talking of was used on upper class homes from the industrial era right through the victorian and then edwardian era.
@avidreality3392

Don’t get this? Maintained brick life 100 years plus and some! Drill a load of holes which will weaken and compromise a buildings integrity, to fit maintenance free plastic cladding on a timber batten which has a much shorter life span than brick. So cover a perfectly good brick wall with cheap, nasty plastic cladding that'll soon deteriorate due to UV, which will make it impossible to maintain the brick & roof pointing, or to change/mastic the door & windows. And which will attract dust & leaf mould into the cavity, blocking it up leading to moisture transfer, especially as rainwater will pour in thru those gaps under the roofline & door/window openings.

Hello, If the installation instructions are followed, it shouldn’t be a problem to use the panels against a wooden frame house.
@Sunnyside--Up
@Sunnyside--Up 2 жыл бұрын
For wooden houses, you need water barrier, something like Tyvek and find instructions on how to install that. Also, this video is from Belgium, in North America we have different codes and equipment for the job, yet, find out what in your area is available. You don't use wood strips to attach siding on wood. The metal or vinyl goes directly on it, but there is material available for that. You slip the siding into the frame on the sides.

Nearly everything is carcinogenic in California. He mentioned PVC, or vinyl (though I suspect the foam itself is polystyrene), and it does put out nasty smoke when it burns. I'm not a fan of this stuff, but it's not going to poison you from the outside of the house. The safety concern with this stuff in the 'states is that it's often put up over walls that are already flammable and the chimney effect makes them burn faster. But over brick or concrete, it's not usually a fire hazard.

It just makes no sense to rule out insulation. You were spending time cutting down plastic end profiles, when if you went for the 4" system, you could have insulation, and the air gap. Always challenge whether an air gap is necessary. For impermeable systems you do not need an air gap. Reviews below do not look promising...
@bighands69
@bighands69 6 жыл бұрын
That was not an impermeable system. It would have water and moisture on occasions running down there and the air gap ensures that it can actually dry out and not have mould growth.
