👋🎙️ *Thank you everyone for your wonderful comments so far (I've passed them on to Hugo!). I should point out that I recorded this piece on 16th May prior to a week's holiday, and the organ has since received significant updates and tweaks. Infact, I'm testing all of Piotr's updates and we'll be working hard to achieve the best version possible prior to its release on 29th May!* *I've played this organ a lot, and I LOVE it!*

I'm very curious because I know very well this organ. I had the chance to play here recitals and offices. I was assistant of the former organist Pierre Cortellezzi. I don't know how Piotr managed the bright acoustic of the church. Johann Vexo is a good friend too.
@mattrixedman3 жыл бұрын
Simply the microphones are high in the air in front of the speaking pipes and are placed high 2 other points in the cathedral. Your seated position at the organ is no where near that close to the pipes and therefore the sound you hear is "bending" around corners therefore dulling down and such - i might not have explained properly or know the exact position of the console but you know what i mean! Also the sampleset is eq'd to get a uniform sound.

@@dominiquedantand2195 The organ sounds quite different in that recording. The mixtures are less prominent and the pedal reeds are much louder. The second Bombard16 completely dominates the sound! (me like!!!). I can also see why the Recit has so much prominence in the building. It has the same upper un-obstructed position as St Sulpice, with the added benefit of the 16" towers cases either side of it funnelling the sound down the nave, without much bouncing off the side walls. I'm looking forward to the release of the set!

Beautifully performed and an ideal preparation for Whitsun! The organ sounded well and I was very impressed with the blending with the human voice. The chant was with an angelic quality. Seeing Hugo attached to Dad, reminded me of seeing a similarly clad father in the Anglican cathedral in Valetta, Malta when i turned around to exchange the peace. Given the huge number of Madonna and child statues in Malta, i could only say to the young father that he better watch out in case they set him on a pedestal and started to light candles before him!

I love the music of Duruflé with it's crazy-wild improvisational and plainsong style and you capture it so brilliantly. It just seems to flow through you. Nancy is great; I have always loved the amazing French reeds (and how you box them up and make them growl!) and the amazing reverberation. Tonight's concert was short, and the one-composition wrapped it into a lovely gift. The Messiaen (which I loved) was the same effect. Thank you for both. BTW I heard Marie-Madeline Duruflé play the 5/105 E.M.Skinner/Mollër organ at National City Christian Church in Washington, DC, probably on her 1989 American Tour. She needed assistance getting to the console but when she sat down, she was all there. It was most poignant when she played Maurice's music.

I must say that I'm disappointed. I don't know if it comes from the settings or from the recording of the organ. The high level of the playing and the singing is not in question. This piece was masterly played in a very beautiful rendition with "alternatim" ..... and a lovely baby. I listened using very good Harman Kardon speakers with subwoofer. Stops sound clear, but too clear. It's not the acoustic and the sound of the organ and of the cathedral. The final variation was surprising.... where is the so powerfull swell of this organ ? where are the reeds stops of the Bombarde Keyboard ? and it's not the tutti of this organ. I'm very disappointed.
@alanmartin20163 жыл бұрын
Harmon Kardon are questionable when it comes to organ samplesets. I have eight channels at home consisting of 2 x Hedd Type 07, plus 6 x Neumann KH 80’s. The Hedds cope with 32 and 64ft pedals admirably, and a sub-woofer is not required . This sounded absolutely stunning. My neighbours thought the same….😉
@dominiquedantand21953 жыл бұрын
@@alanmartin2016 My others friends organists around Nancy listened too ... on various speakers. The opinion is the same : we don't recognize the organ.... and we know it very well.
@tonymurphy76103 жыл бұрын
I'd say a lot of what you are hearing and not hearing is down to the mix of the channels. If you heard the 2 rear-most channels in surround, it'd probably sound more like in the building. As for the swell and bombard, that should be adjustable from the voicing menu. I think it's a wait 'till release and then judge.

@@dominiquedantand2195 I find your comment really interesting. I do not know this organ very well, like you, but I have heard (admittedly recordings!) several Cavaille-Coll organs and I just did not think this one sounded like a Cavaille-Coll instrument! There is no denying that Grabowski has captured the acoustic of the church brilliantly . . . but I am not sure we are hearing the 'real' organ. Early on in the comments, someone remarked it sounded 'digital' i.e. too perfect. Hauptwerk is incredibly sophisticated. For me, the tuning as it sounded in this performance is just too perfect. It does not sound 'French' enough! I listened to St. Sernin and Caen afterwards and then this Hauptwerk recording of Nancy again. As you say, Dominique, it is not the high level of playing or singing in question - both of which were superb. But I likewise feel somewhat disappointed. The organ I heard is a fabulous instrument. But I would not have said it was an 1861 Cavaille-Coll! Richard remarked that Piotr is still making adjustments. I would suggest some detuning!
@dominiquedantand21953 жыл бұрын
@@tonymurphy7610 I'm also a Hauptwerk user, but it could help us to understand this problem if Richard would give some informations about the settings he used. I'm waiting on the next recital of course to listen to others stops and combinations of this organ.
