The Metal Mulisha was a freestyle dirtbike crew / brand that took over the dirtbike world in the early 2000s. The quickly became one of the biggest brands in action sports before going through some rougher times, however, they're still a major FMX brand today and maintain a cult following.

I wore a mm jacket to school. All the islanders that were like 5 years older than me decided it was a hitler jacket or something and damn near the whole school surrounded me trying to take it off me, I had like 6 islander men standing over me pushing me round over a moto cross jacket. I grew up in a big dirt bike family. My dad had all the crusty demons, nitro circus, on the pipe. All the big riding trips. I was really blessed growing up. Deegan, Twitch, McGrath, Carmichael, Pastrana were all household names to us. But Deegan always was my favorite. He took me to one of the x-games in the early 2000’s and I got to meet Deegan when I was about 5, and I got a picture with him. I just remember him being so chill and so cool. I was speechless, but that was a core memory for sure

Metal Mulisha is more than a brand it was a movement, a culture, a mindset. Everyone who used too freeride in the late 90s and early to mid 2000s in SoCal considered themselves part of the Metal Mulisha Army. Brian was simply The General of it all. Legendary. Though the brand is still around and might be attempting a comeback, I believe the Deegan 38 fanbase is the spiritual successor to the Metal Mulisha movement.

1 thing I will admit that should’ve been brought up in some aspect was the collaboration between Monster Jam and Metal Mulisha as it did spark a second coming of the brand in a way. Hell Todd LeDuc still competes in Monster Jam to this day. From my knowledge with the Monster Jam community Metal Mulisha was seen as an underdog from its start in 2012 to its end in 2017. It also showed that the Metal Mulisha gang still had some energy in them as Todd LeDuc took Metal Mulisha to victory in the 2014 Monster Jam World Finals XV Freestyle competition being crowned the Freestyle Champion after sending the truck airborne for 4 whole seconds (the longest time in competition up to that point). And then went on the next year to be one of only 7 Monster Jam drivers to win both Freestyle and Racing when he won Racing in the 2015 Monster Jam World Finals XVI Racing Championship.

The “politics and culture” of professional racing is called “professionalism”. No professional race team is ever looking for riders who lack discipline.
@Braaaps
@Braaaps 6 ай бұрын
I don’t know man, “politics and culture” seemed accurate. What about deegan for example, I’d say he has quite a bit of discipline, he’s more accomplished than 99% who raced. Pastrana, Deegan, Twitch, Hodges etc etc are more popular than most on a “professional race team” to each their own opinions though. I’d rather watch a good free rider enjoy his bike and what he does than good racing. Not taking away from racing, but proof is in the pudding. Everyone wants to see style, big jumps and tricks.

The brand MM took the western part of the US by fire along with DC, Vans, Famous, No Fear and west coast choppers. They started the “Bro” movement it was predominantly white kids. You had bros and bro hoes. Was in everything and the energy drink craze also started around the early 2000s time. The trend died out because we all grew up. Had jobs and kids and the guys were seeing on tv in The X games were leaving. The X games died out to. Time killed the Bro culture or scene like most anything.

In my opinion I like the original Metal Mulisha 10x more than Nitro Circus 💯 When Jeremy Lusk passed away that really had a huge impact on alot of things in the dirt bike community. I live in Western Colorado and worked with someone who was an original Metal Mulisha rider and that person shared some great stories with me at this legal cannabis grow we both worked at. Idk if there's any modern day young riders that fit in the original metal mulisha niche... Although I can see Axel Hodges doing a great job in metal mulisha. I felt like such a badass with my Metal Mulisha t-shirt on and my West Coast Choppers maltese cross bmx peddels. Easier times man! I'll never forget watching Metzgar do the first flip in comp live. Shit was bonkers! Sad to watch something so righteous be birthed and slowly die
