Dustin, immer sehr gute professionelle Reviews. Das trifft auch auf diesen zu! Da ich das Objektiv auch habe, kann ich alles nur bestätigen. Sehr gut ist auch das die Maße international in mm und gram angegeben werden! Vielen Dank aus Deutschland (former "old Europe"). Dustin, always very good professional reviews. That also applies to this one! Since I also have the lens, I can only confirm everything. It is also very good that the dimensions are given internationally in mm and grams! Many thanks from Germany (former "old Europe") Udo

I always like it when owners of the gear I review confirm my conclusions as accurate.

Sony moving in on Tamron's turf... :p I guess I keep to 12mm prime + 24mm prime I don't really need all the in-between, I can walk for framing ^^

If you need 12mm 2.8 you can also try the Laowa 12mm 2.8 which can be adapted nicely on the Sony. IQ is good enough for interior or landscape - in case you need 12mm wide. And it just cost a fraction of the Sony.
@DustinAbbottTWI
@DustinAbbottTWI 3 жыл бұрын
A fraction is a bit misleading, as the Laowa is still nearly a $1000 lens. I own the lens, but it has a number of its own limitations. Colors are somewhat flat, vignette is extremely heavy, no autofocus, no electronics, no weathersealing. If all you needed were 12mm, then it might be an option, though.

I don’t need autofocus for landscape. Also no electronics. Vignetting is there, yes but can be corrected easily in post. Flat colors, well, not really but that depends on how and what you shoot, for my landscape work typically no issue as I do a lot in post anyway. Or go with b/w. I see it as a vital option, the Laowa 12mm 2.8 cost here considering the fx rate 750 USD what I Call a fraction compared to the 2900 USD for the Sony…

@@Stefan1968ful I got the Sigma DG DN 14-24, and I end up selling my excellent copy of the Laowa 12mm with regrett. Cannot afford to keep wile with the 14 I can do (vertical camera) stitching that work very well. If in 'reportage' mode, than the 12 is, if in its own, a handicap to me (hence the zoom option, witch for me is the DN 14-24mm since it also hase a "decent" size and EXCELLENT renditions. I'd rather have ONE really fast prime wide within that zoom range, but don't have that need eighter. But I agree (when with primes in ex. 20/28, 24/35, the 12 Laowa (available second hand and if well tested beforehand) can make a lot of sens. (Of course there is no formula possible to meet financial, specificly temporary, or long-term needs, and personal creative inspirational circumstances - simultaneously lol

@@AR-vf7vg Yes, never said the Laowa 12mm 2.8 is IT. It is manual focus lens, I know many people who dont like manual lenses. It also has no electronics, it is like years back. But for my landscape work this is not an issue at all. And the image quality and sharpness of the Laowa 12mm 2.8 is great on my Sony A7R4. No regret to have kept this lens when I migrated from Nikon to Sony.

Nice review, but no mention again of the one lens everyone considering this lens would be comparing it to.

And which is that? I'm assuming you are referring to the Sigma 14-24mm DN? I do allude to that lens in my text review, but 12mm is not 14mm.

You don't use gels on your lens. You use wratten filters which have better optics than most screw in filters.

Hmmm, not quite sure how you can say "you don't use gels" when Sony refers to it as a gel filter holder.
