@@hankhill4542Dustin said in the video this is his first time receiving a drone from DJI. He notes this in past vids as well. DJI doesn't just send anyone a drone to test. I’m sure there are a lot of folks out there who will be making their purchasing decisions based on this video. Well done!!

Congratulations for getting on DJI’s radar. It’s about time you got noticed! Your reviews are always top notch and honest and no one goes as in depth as you do making multiple videos on different aspects and capabilities. Great flight and review as always. Not a nail biter like some of your flights that you had to go down to 0% but great flight just the same. I did see it wanted to go down at the very end and you had to fly it the last couple of hundred feet. That is one thing that DJI has maintained all along is the ability to push up when the battery is low and the craft is trying to auto land. Even the original mavic pro which I still fly has this feature. Great job Dustin and DJI!!!

Nice drone. Loved a lot of your past videos Dustin. Especially the thrilling Mavic 3 range one flight from Hawaii and also your Mini 3 range one from this past winter as well as many others. Thank you. I've done many range tests and videos myself. I haven't published any of them on KZbin yet since I'm a musician and will make a Nomad RV traveller channel and also a drone flyer channel in the future. I have the Mini 3 Pro and the Mavic 3. I bought the Mini 3 Pro in August 2022 and the Mavic 3 this past December 2022. I maxed my range in a nice open countryside high plateau area near here north of Montreal Quebec last May 22nd. My Mini 3 Pro got to 10.218 Kilometers (33,525 feet, 6.349 miles) launched at 100 % and finally landed at 4 % during the auto landing feature with my RCN1 controller. My Mavic 3 is incomparable however! Great with my RC Pro controller now which had some signal issues last December but now has great solid signal even from very far away at 10 Kilometers! Always mostly 5 or 4 white bars and rare yellow bars, very very rare red ones! 🙏😊The red and yellow bars occur a lot more often however with my Mini 3 pro. 😢 My max distance with my amazing Mavic 3 was at 13.163 kilometers (Wow incredible and insane) but being so scared I landed it 2 kilometers before arriving when the auto landing function started at 9 %. I could have perhaps got it back to me at 1% flying it down to the last ounce during the auto landing but was cautious and too scared about damaging my expensive Mavic 3. I found a good spot and used the "Find my drone" feature! Great! The drone was in perfect condition. My most perfect flight to date however was last July 27th reaching 12.026 kilometers away (7.472 miles, 39,455 feet) WOW! Could have gone further (perhaps even 13 Kilometers and get it back to me?). It got back to above me at 17 % so I'm getting less stressed as I am cautious! I always use and check the Windy app, UAV app, my great Airdata app and other weather apps.I always check all the elements thoroughly and only do my range tests in exceptionally low wind. I usually start my auto return to home at 60% if flying against the wind on my way back and sometime at 55 or max 50 % if my drone is flying with the wind on the way back. While flying I calculate my percentage every 1,000 meters Great if using only 3 or 4 % every 1,000 meters! Not so good good when calculating 5-7 % per 1,000 meters! Obviously when fighting the wind it's flying slower, angling around on the compass icon and more percentage usage. etc. Also I rewatch my videos and calculate all the numbers after my flights on my amazing Airdata app which I paid for to have my account as well as on my DJI Fly app flight logs which precisely play back all my flights! So far due, to my meticulous calculations I have had no crashes nor loss! I did crash and broke my Mini 3 Pro only once last August 2022 on my 2nd or 3rd flight as a beginner and thankfully DJI sent me a new Mini 3 pro last August and since that incident I'm extremely cautious and have now flown 152 flights since then very well! I'm also into so many features such as Waypoints, Hyperlapse, Slo motion, cinematic gain settings for better cinematic flight videos, good videography, photography and so on! I've been getting better at all the many other features ie. Night Flying and all the others etc..Lots there to keep learning and improving! I will make a drone KZbin channel soon since I have tons of videos and video creations. Love it! Yes the DJI Air 3 seems great as well as the new Ocusync 4.0 and would really love to have it too but have to watch my budget. The main thing is that I'm super happy with my Mavic 3 and my Mini 3 Pro. My next investment which I wish for will be getting into FPV flying with the Avata, the Goggles and Motion controller and improving FPV flying skills as well. Have a great day Dustin.

I’ve managed to get my mini 2 out to more than 5 kilometres, hovered over a mountain for a couple of minutes and looking down and around it. Then I brought it home in auto mode, at about 1275 metres out it had started to auto land. When I realised that it was landing I pushed it further and it kept coming in, then it started to lower again at about 250 metres out, the battery level said it was on 0%, so I had to push up on it as well as forward. It made it back, which I was very happy about lol. I think that dji purposely underestimate the battery level just so that they can’t be blamed when people push their drones to the absolute limit. So you could probably have gone further without losing your drone.

If it is true that it got better signal going out, that is a bit backwards to conventional FPV antenna orientation. Normally you would build your unit to have the optimal signal strength on return, that way if you get into trouble and the craft turns around on some kind of RTH, you should get video and control back almost immediately in most cases. I am kind of surprised DJI would set it up this way, but I suppose you could say they have almost total confidence in the automation at this point that they aren't worried about the fastest recovery of control and video but rather just trying to get the drone to the limits of the system by having the signal be stronger facing away.

Your drone testing has been a huge help in finding a manufacturer and model I like, and I ended up getting an Avata 2, Mini 4 Pro and Air 3. I believe this should cover my entire flight envelope (the C1 and C0 classification also being attractive in Europe) and I've already been asked to shoot for a couple of friends and small clients. So, i suppose things are looking promising!

The Mavic 3 went farther at 47 thousand feet but returned home at 0%. You still have 5% from 40 thousand feet with this Air 3. It's evenly matched I guess. The only take away with this test is the 04 transmission system. You already lost 2 bars with Mavic 3 at 18 thousand feet. Yet you only lost 1 bar at 40 thousand feet with this Air 3. Impressive.

14:30 i really wish DJI changed the firmware so if you zoom in (digitally) with the 1x lens, it would seamlessly swap to the 3x lens once you hit 3x zoom, then continues to 9x digital zoom. Feels pointless to zoom in digitally 3x when you then manually have to swap to the 3x lens anyway.

Hey Dustin, thanks for the video. Glad DJI is finally putting Way points on all of their newer drones. That 04 transmission is simply amazing. Did you happen to notice how long the batter lasted for this flight? Curious about "real" battery life vs spec'd battery life. Beautiful country but IMO nothing compares to Hawaii. Aloha.
@brianroberts5062 Жыл бұрын
The Air 3 like nearly all DJI drones use LiPo HV batteries not LiOn. The chemistry and characteristics are completely different. Delightful countryside. Where is it located? I also see from the various range tests that the Air 3 has better reception from the rear than from the front. Not sure why, maybe something to do with the antenna location on the done.
@DustinDunnill Жыл бұрын
I wonder if you knew that the Li in LiPo stands for Lithium Ion. Not "completely different" but slightly different chemistry and a completely different casing. Soft polymer bag (LiPo) vs hard metal cylindrical shell (LiOn) 🍻

This seems to no longer be worth the argument my friend. We can agree to disagree on the petty nuances. I've learned to distinguish between the 2 by calling them li-Ion cylindrical hard cell or LiPo. It can definitely be confusing. Cheers 🍻

To get better video without the “stutter” I see in this one. Look up the “180 rule”. If your shooting at 30 fps then your shutter speed should be 1/60th. You have 1/4000. Doing this will smooth out your video. You may need to invest in some ND filters which are used for this purpose. Just saying. Check it out.

Should have used CRUISE CONTROL at 28.8 kph to match DJIs longest flight time. That would have required sport mode but not full throttle. Got this speed number from "DJI Air 3 Specs" page under "Max Flight Time"
@DustinDunnill Жыл бұрын
Interesting. 28.8 kph is 17.9 mph seems like you wouldn't need sport for that. Maybe you meant mph?
@DustinDunnill Жыл бұрын
Nevermind, I looked it up on DJI's site. They actually list how to get the most flight time in specs for 46 minute flight. Just not sure 28.8kph would be best for range. Maybe another test 🍻

Hope you are safe from the fires! If you could fly a drone up and get some footage safely! Much love!

I have that same drone and love it. I had no idea it had that type of range, wow!

I also have the Air 3 and it is a nice drone. I have not yet done such a range test, but after my first short range test I noted the telemetry data in an Excel sheet based on the screen recording. From this I was able to "calculate" on the basis of the graph created by Excel, that this drone can reach 13 km in N-mode (In S-mode of course further, but in the graph you can see that the drone is more likely to hit the RTH line.) You proved that my calculation was correct. Thank you.

Hey brother! My best so far with the Mavic Air 3 is 45,332 feet and back. It prob has 9 miles in it on a pedfect day with a good battery , but it simply won't match the Mavic 3's 10 mile plus range and back. I post my stuff only on Facebook , I have been doing this since 2014 , and I am certainly all over FAA'S radar. I think my 21.5 mile flight with my Matrice 600 is up on youtube , but its not my post. Itelite dbs mods has a couple old Phantom 3 records. Any who its nice to see someone else doing LR flights. I wish you clear skies , endless signal , and bottom less battery life sir. Hopefully the snitches don't sell you out like i was to the FAA back in 2018-2019.

Did you notice your Obstacle avoidance came on when you hit return home? Or did you turn them on? Just wondering did you catch that. Great video overall your the best I've seen doing these distance test on dji drones is amazing. You've also insured confidence in myself to fly farther. Thanks for all your videos.👍

Yes it turns on automatically whenever RTH is initiated. Thank you! 🍻

You should try a range test using cruise control according to DJI that will be the most efficient flight speed for better flight times

You would think with the technology now in the Air 3 and other DJI drones ,that DJI would do a firmware update to accomidate a height sensor .Considering the amount of satalites that it uses. How great would that be to keep at 400 ft from ground level where ever you flew.
@treynolds947 ай бұрын
Then they would have to adjust for each country since here in Canada anything sub 250g has very little regulations from Transport Canada. No height restrictions, able to fly closer then 5 km to an airport and fly over people and roads ect. America has alot of retrictions when it comes to drones because of the paranoia alot of America has with being spied on and war.

Almost as close to Mavic 3 pro, the speed made the difference, but the signal was stronger in the Air 3. The average normal speed you did with Mavic 3 Pro was 33+ mph vs 26+ mph with the Air 3. So seems like DJI made the Air 3 slower than Mavic 3 in normal mode.
@DustinDunnill Жыл бұрын
Good points. Could also be more of an optimal speed for the different designs & weight. I also took the Mav 3 further down to it's lowest battery limit 🍻

I'm from Jamaica and I don't watch any drone videos unless it's from Dustin and it's because of him why I'm buying the Air 3. I love the video when you pushed the Air 2 so farrrr out and it had me quivering😂. You are the real tester of drones man. DJI should personally pay you for these videos....
@bhouse92101 Жыл бұрын
Interesting that the drone facing the controller dropped it down by a bar. Clearly the battery is the limit of this, not the transmission signal. Not sure if this is a first?

Have you tried using cruise control for this test , that would be intresting.
