Hey Shaun a little late to this party but I wanted to share my experience. My son is with the Texas National Guard on the Border Mission. He is currently in the Big Bend area riding a Polaris Ranger on the big ranches in the area for this exact reason. It is May2024 and the summer is beginning and many desperate people not familiar with the region will be crossing this area. His job is to find and rescue them from the elements. Also my family owns property in the Rocksprings area. We had a cabin that would get broken into with only food and water taken. We got a foot locker and always stocked it with canned goods and openers plus fresh water and that stopped the break ins. We did this like you did to help them. Once we did come across a group gave them water and food they were very gracious. This was back in the 80’s. Wrapping up like you said doesn’t matter where you are on the political side of this issue when you meet someone in true need you help them end of story.

Its easy for people to be against the idea of illegal immigrants when its abstracted the the idea of 10k+ people crossing the border. Its hard for people to say leave them to die in the middle of the desert. I think even the most adamant supporter of closing the border would give a bottle of water to someone dying in the desert.

@@dustupstexas The fact that you feel you must have no boundaries for your own personal property shows me there is a problem here. Make no mistake, I have empathy for most of the people involved. Many are ill-informed and semi illiterate. Many are trying to escape from horrific situations we can not imagine. Some do not fall into this category and are dangerous. Even a gentle person can become dangerous in some situations. I truly feel we must help those people we encounter, if we can do so safely and without giving up our own freedoms. Americans are generous people and tolerant, perhaps to a fault. I remain convinced that this particular problem could be better addressed by a stronger emphasis on enforcing existing laws and supporting those entrusted with protecting our borders. In Canada what we mostly see about the situation at the border is mostly the extreme toxic politics that seems to completely ignore the human side of the ongoing exodus of these migrants, the desperate situations they are fleeing from and the dangers and hardship they endure while doing so. Don't believe that political narrative that they are fleeing dangers to come to a better life because that is generally not the case. Democrat lawyers from the United States are down there telling them what to say and are doing this to help raise funds illegally for themselves by endangering the lives of these people and most of these people are good people but you have bad ones mixed in and those are the real dangers to any country who receives them. Joe Biden is an evil SOB and they have loads of children in the sex trade because of this influx of illegal immigration. This whole thing that is going on with the illegal immigration is being done by the global Elites who are trying to collapse the United states. They're trying to turn this into a communist country and they want to bring about severe hardships upon the citizens. It's a very difficult situation being thrust upon these people and most of them coming do want a better life for themselves but they are not going to get what they expect because what they have been promised is not so much what they will receive.

Shaun you took the right approach. Regardless of politics and border issues, we are all human. My biggest concern is the cartels know this and will exploit your land when you aren’t there. Safety for not only yourself but of everyone is going to be extremely important. If you haven’t seen Peter Santanello’s videos in the border, I recommend it. Every section has their own specific issues to be mindful of. It’s only getting worse as they expect over half a million people to cross the Darien gap this year alone just from South America let alone the Russians seeking asylum flying in and crossing from Mexicali.

Actually they get jobs, pay taxes, and rarely claim benefits because they are afraid of being deported. You really think people walk across the desert in south Texas after hiking from South America because they are lazy? As a capitalist, I believe labor mobility is part of a dynamic, free market economy. It’s sad that many conservatives have abandoned this idea as an excuse to cover up xenophobia.

Raw, unfiltered reality just hits different. Admirable attitude in a difficult situation. I don't know what the solution is but a part of it could be addressing the underlying issues rather than trying to _only_ patch things up with the end result... and _there's_ a long history of bad choices made in the past which contributed to all that. Some soul searching is in order for many.

It’s shameful how these people are abused on both sides of the border. It was quite cringey to hear you say he doesn't need money... of course a hungry thirsty person walking miles through the desert could use some money when they get to town!
