Eyes like a panda??? I don't think so! That was the style. She was georgeous then, and when I look at the footage from the 60's, she is still beautiful.

Interesting how the interviewer makes much of Dusty's appearance in the 1960s (and finds it funny). Actually, Dusty always looked charming back then. The baby doll dresses, the neat upswept hair, the dark eyes - all looked great on her because she had a wonderful figure. She was very elegant. A far cry from the awful shaggy perm days that followed!

I don't care if she was bi, gay, Chinese, whatever. She was the most distinctive, incredible singer. IMHO, she and Stevie Nicks have the most instantly recognizable voices. RIP Dusty girl. You are missed!!!

She was one unique talent. Such range. She'd could whisper a song like 'Windmills of your mind" or belt one out. Incredibly versatile. Sang so many hits. Nice interview. Wonder if she knew just how great her voice was.

This is from 81, she was in a relationship with Carole Pope, a Toronto musician. Teda was after that. Read the book Dancing with Demons, her "authorized" Bio.

a beautiful gay woman..hey it should never matter what you do behind closed doors as long as you are respectful and not doing anyone harm ....being gay does not take away your talents..you are just as talented just as beautiful and we are all who we are meant to be in this world...love yourself and love others never be ashamed of who you are!!

Dusty around 1978-1980 was constantly being asked "You disappeared what happened to you in the 1970's?" She should have answered, "Well, I recorded 5 LP's from 1969 to 1979."Instead, she seemed to shrug it off and talked about being restless. But she in fact was working 12 hour days in recording studios and doing live Cabaret Super Club acts around the states as well as occasional T.V. performances (like Tom Jones). In the early 70's she was between U.S. and England doing shows. As can be seen on YOU TUBE thank you! The woman was far to humble.

I've always loved listening to Dusty Springfield sing, but this is the first time I've ever seen one of her interviews. Clearly, she's intelligent, has a self-deprecating sense of humor, and is so very interesting to listen to.

My first time seeing an interview with her also, I was very surprised at how melodic her speaking voice was. Its very unusual and she is very charming and instantly likable. A class act.

Thats the thing with fashion. At the time it seems great, and 15 years later we look back and thing WTF was I doing!? But actually I think she looked fab in the 60's. Much better than she did in the 80's! Her hair and makeup aren't all that flattering here. But her personality is as sparky and humorous as always.

O.K. so she was bi-sexual, I figure that her business and if somebody has a problem with that, that is their problem, She had such a beautiful, though husky voice, which made her music stand-out. Rock on and R.I. P, Dusty with so many wonderful singers of the 50's and 60's. Loved all of your music. Micheline Kribs, Rolla,MO

@GeriHew12 жыл бұрын
She may have been. But Dusty's affair with Carole Pope in 1981 apparently only lasted about 6 months, although some reports say it was more like a year. If Dusty tried to keep it secret that would have been a strain on the relationship considering how out Carole Pope always was.

Frans Jansen, thanks for posting all the Dusty interviews! Wanted to make you aware if you were not already, just got a "Reelin' In The Years" BONUS DVD (single dvd purchased off ebay) and found a brief (maybe a minute or two long) interview of Dusty getting off a plane in Australia and having the press badger her for not Informing the media of her arrival and being accused of "Sneaking into the country" several times. Dusty patient and charming and slightly annoyed (understandably so) enduring the aggressive and accusatory questioning. They asked her if she was a Hippie! So funny. Typical unintelligent questions being asked. She looked wonderful in it. Think interview occurred shortly prior to her doing a lip sync performance on a show, the one with the guy sitting in the passenger seat of a car with hands behind his head.

First of all, nobody's 100% anything. Dusty herself said she was bi-sexual, so we'll have to leave it at that. I take for granted she knew herself better than anyone else. Not that it matters one iota, of course, because Dusty's legacy will always be her music, and that's what we'lll remember most of all. There was nobody like her, that's for sure, and I honor her memory today and always.
@OctoberOhio16 жыл бұрын
Ahhh...then she was simply referring to Carole Pope in another gender! Thank you.
@janetwickens17577 жыл бұрын
When Mike Walsh announced that Dusty was getting married and said "Who's the guy?", it wasn't a guy at all, it was a black woman called Teda. They 'married' in the early '80's after she split with Carole Pope, when I don't think same-sex marriage was legal.
@cbrahm12 жыл бұрын
Anyone know if it was indeed Carole pope she was speaking of?
@janetwickens17577 жыл бұрын
I read Carole Pope's bio and I don't remember them getting married or even planning a marriage, which probably wasn't legal then anyway. I read elsewhere that Dusty 'married' a black woman in the early 80's after she had split with Pope.
@GeriHew12 жыл бұрын
How is she lying about her sexuality here? In an interview with Ray Connolly for Evening Standard in Sept 1970 Dusty made it clear she was bisexual when she said: " I'm as perfectly capable of being swayed by a girl as by a boy." She indicated she was bi in several subsequent interviews in the 70s.I know many people think she wasn't really bi but actually totally gay but that's beside the point, at this time in 1981 she may have possibly had plans to marry a man.
