@@QueenFan12 It was worse in the 1930s when my parents were growing up. By the time I was a kid in the 60s, it was certainly still around, but also very much on the defensive and in retreat, besides being now a target of the law. In the 30s, it was taken for granted. By the 70s, you had to work at racism, because the way people once mindlessly accepted it was no longer operative.

@@QueenFan12and Dusty struck her own blow against racism as you may know. I mean, apart from her love for and support of black musicians. When she toured in South Africa, she refused to play before segregated audiences, and in fact had insisted on this in her contract. When the promoters reneged on the contract, and expected her to still sing, she continued to refuse, and ended up in a scary situation which ended in her deportation in the middle of false accusations from the South African authorities. Some people in show business supported her, others, notably the comedy actor Derek Nimmo, did not. It apparently led to antipathy between the two for the rest of Dusty's life. No prizes for guessing that I take Dusty's part wholeheartedly, the world needs her far more than a twittery fool with an upper class accent.

... and THAT is what microphone technique is all about. Shake ! My favourite Sam Cooke song ....dynamite version by Dusty. Doug Reece, seen playing bass ? on stage with Dusty recalls his memories of working with her during this Australian television interview a few years back.....kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXiTiGuon7OXnrM. Doug became a well known identity in the music industry over here. Had the pleasure of working with him at Channel 9 in Melbourne. A really delightful guy. We knew little about all that he had done on the London pop scene as he was always a low key character who never big noted himself. But fascinating now to see him on these old British TV shows.

@@YTSkeptic The drummer for the Echoes, Dusty's touring band, was Johnny Dryden at this point in time. The band had numerous lineup changes, with even Ringo filling in one night during his Rory Storm days. This history reveals some interesting insight. Also worth noting that Doris Troy also did occasional vocals for Dusty. Troy penned and had the original hit with 'Stay', and early chart topper for the Hollies and many years later also for Jackson Browne. She was also signed to the Beatles Apple label, and her album was produced by George Harrison, who invited a young Peter Frampton to play lead guitar on it...with Clapton, Billy Preston, Leon Russell, Ringo, and members of Delaney & Bonnie's band. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Echoes_(English_group)
