You Don't Have To Say You Love Me
When I said I needed you
You said you would always stay
It wasn't me who changed but you
And now you've gone away
Don't you see
That now you've gone
And I'm left here on my own
That I have to follow you
And beg you to come home?
You don't have to say you love me
Just be close at hand
You don't have to stay forever
I will understand
Believe me, believe me
I can't help but love you
But believe me
I'll never tie you down
Left alone with just a memory
Life seems dead and so unreal
All that's left is loneliness
There's nothing left to feel
You don't have to say you love me
Just be close at hand
You don't have to stay forever
I will understand
Believe me, believe me
You don't have to say you love me
Just be close at hand
You don't have to stay forever
I will understand
Believe me, believe me, believe me
You Don't Have To Say You Love Me

She didn't have the benefit of tech sound of today...she just stood there and sang with such style and technical ability...she knew how to work the mike and connect with the song and those in front of her. She was really underappreciated for musical skills...incredible singer. Dusty would blow away many singers of today when she was young. There was really NO ONE in U.S. OR U.K. at that period of time that can close to her voice, even tho many had the pipes. Dusty had it all...and gorgeous.

Dusty was truly one of the all time greats. But I would have to rank the great Judith Durham and Karen Carpenter as the greatest female singers of my era.
@thomasschmitz9894
@thomasschmitz9894 6 жыл бұрын
agree about karen carpenter... while i love dusty and no one could sing this particular song better then her, to me it was her "style" and presentation that was so great, greater then her voice, her voice was great, but it was very 'stylized" and worked for the songs she sang, no one could sing this song better then her nor "the look of love" i doubt... but karen carpenter was the ULTIMATE female crooner and had the purest, richest, most moving, beautiful voice i have ever heard.. compare dusty singing "a house is not a home" and karen's short brief version of it when karen was only 21 in 1971 (the youtube video).... karen OWNS dusty in this particular song, because the lyrics and music of the song is perfect for karen and no one does karen better then karen..

As a boy, growing up in London in the 1960s, seeing Dusty on the television was a wonder. Her voice, her looks, that hairstyle, were captivating. It was THE time to be growing up and, one of THE places to be, and to be alive as each new great song was being released, (the Beatles, for example) with all the freshness, was just a wonderful blessing.

I agree. I "found" this video after watching a Seekers documentary (which was great) where I learned that "I'll Never Find Another You" was written by Tom Springfield, Dusty's brother. I then remembered being captured by that "Spell", as Tom Leander puts it, from the 60s that Dusty put us under. Yes, it was THE time to be growing up.

That must of been really something with people from Dusty and Petula Clark to David Bowie, The Stones and Beatles...and Ozzy, Rod Stewart, Zeppelin, The Who...amazing. And I have heard that it wasn't uncommon to hang around the studios and see these ones. Now, there's someone new every day, they slap a GREAT TALENT on social media so others just assume they must be great...some are, but so much true talent is not on stages and winning awards. It's just who you know.

This is the first time you’ve seen and heard Dusty? I’m so happy for you! She was amazing. The music of the 60s, made memorable by The Beatles opening the way for The British Invasion, is still the best. I was fortunate enough to grow up then. I lived it all ‘in real time’. I wish all the younger people could have one hour of what it was like. If you don’t know much about the music and artists of the 60s dig into it. You’ll love it. I promise.

The decade of the 60s was the pinnacle of music, songwriting, and singers. They'd absolutely blow today's modern "artists" away. As singers go, I'd put a young Tom Jones and Dusty Springfield head-to-head against ANYBODY contemporary artist, male or female.

She wasn't banned, she was not allowed to perform because she wanted to perform barefoot.... And she was not banned as such, she chose not to wear shoes to make a political statement - nothing more. Every other performance in every other country she always wore shoes! Not wearing shoes at a formal affair was just not the done thing in SA at the time. Just like a man wasn't allowed in a Hotel Bar after 7pm unless he was wearing a Jacket & Tie. Oh, and the same thing happened to Sandy Shaw I believe!

I understood that she gave 2 concerts in Joburg to unsegregated audiences, and then went to Capetown where she was kept in her hotel for 3 days before being deported for deliberately flouting the segregation law. She gave her concert fees to South African charities.

“You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me” (1966) earned Dusty Springfield the hugest hit of her career. It didn’t come easy for the British singer though : she felt pleased with her vocal performance after recording a total of 47 takes‼️ That lady was a PERFECTIONIST, no less… In 2004, the piece made the Rolling Stone list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, at #491. A SHEER CLASSIC lauded by generations of melophiles. 💜💎💚 Rest in peace, Mary Isobel Catherine Bernadette O’Brien, a.k.a. Dusty Springfield (1939 - 1999). 🌹

This song is from the Italian singer Pino Donaggio and is called "Io che non vivo (senza te)". It was recorded in the year 1965 and presented at the San Remo Festival. Dusty Springfield was present when he heard the interpretation of this song in the voice of Jody Miller and decided to record it in English. It's a great song on all versions.

THANK YOU, "Mad Men" and its creator(s) for introducing me to the beautiful music of the late Dusty Springfield --------in particular, this song is used for the closing scene of Episode 2 from Season 5 ("A little kiss Part 2"-------an astounding, heartbreaking ending to the episode because black people, all dressed for "success" appear at the lobby of the agency after (sadly) a prank NYTimes ad making fun of a competing agency announces that "Cooper..." et al is an "Equal opportunity" employer....The protagonists suddenly know not what to do, and it is not so much any racism that crosses their faces, but embarrassment at the situation (read what you will)...Then the "comptroller" (a man who has paid dearly for having had an affair with a black girl before!) takes charge and settles everything, while Dusty starts singing in the background....That this happens only FIFTY years ago (1966 or so) is simply monumentally grotesque------and although the song is not exactly about human rights (or not at all, in itself) it hits you so forcefully, I started crying----for all the pain of lifetimes of my fellow black Americans.......More to the point here, Dusty had such a wonderfully subtle voice----yet it is filled with so much melancholy.....She was UNIQUE...
