Thanks for the comparison of these two. I'd looked at these over the years, I even considered getting an Aussie Swag at one point. Unfortunately, these old bones struggle to get off the floor these days, and using a hammock is more comfortable for me. Again, thank you for the review. It was very helpful.

Maybe you did not notice - but that "Gas Permeable" Gore Tex Fabric is a BIG BIG Plus - compared to Standard Gore Tex. And DPM, of course, works better than Multicum ;-)

Thanks for sharing. I have the XL Dutch, it's very cool, and agree with all your points but it was made for a limited application so there are draw backs from that design limitation, I think. The XL size is very generous and allows fitting a large pack at the feet, useful in a down pour, it props up the foot area for a tauter setup, but lacks ventilation down there also so air can't 'tunnel' through to evacuate warm moist air from breathing. Condensation is problem, though minor. Also, the "gas permeable" claim is mostly Goretex marketing and I don't think it's so important. Once the fabric is fully saturated with water almost no air passes in or out, much like people sweating inside Goretex jackets. On one hand, while there's little to no water ingress from that, simultaneously it means if or when water does get in, say if the main fly is open for a moment in a down pour water almost cannot get back out, and with the extra large size it's extra cumbersome to shake about and lacks tabs or handles to grab or tie up to a high point to drip dry and air out. Once wet it will stay wet for maybe 12-24 hours without sun and wind. Washing the bivy equally requires some patience. Also, with an air mattress is inside there's little room left in the head area. Do you use a mattress inside your TAS? For Australian weather, I think it would be better if the mosquito net was extended to the chest or torso to sleep under the stars in the heat, and maybe the addition of a small vent at the foot and rear like the TAS to reduce condensation inside during cooler weather. Peace

Hi Damien, thank you for sharing your insights, you made some really good points. I think regarding airflow and head space the Australian TAS bivi is better placed. I also like your point of putting the pack ar the foot end to lift the fabric, but that would work indeed best with the XL. I normally leave the back outside with a waterproof liner. End yes, I also put my pad insight, but only when it rains.

@@WildTreksAustralia Yep, stuffing a pack is OK but there's still some sag mid fly lacking a taut top. Without adding a sewn in tab and compromising the fabric a simple pebble or coin could be tucked under and tied over with paracord to lift in the midsection. That would improve comfort and prevent any chance of water pooling and seeping in the torso area. Yeah, that's right, the Dutch has loops underneath for an external pad. Having a mat as a raised platform would reduce the footprint a little for less water ingress, maybe also less heat transfer. That reminds me to get a rectangle mat for this! Peace

What is the black and olive 3 pole bivy you show at 0:43? Thank you.

It is a Black Wolf bivvi, which was quite cheap at the time. However, the two plastic windows came out while I was using it. I also belief it has been discontinued. A similar and probably better alternative is the Mountain Designs Burrow Bivy Tent Treetop
