Dutch in my opinion was a good person. It just broke him seeing Hosea die and knowing Arthur was going to die. Not to mention he probably wouldn’t have been the way he was in the end if it wasn’t for Micha whispering in his ear.

Jaded Inc Unfortunately I believe Dutch was always a bad person. He just surrounded himself with good people because he knew it would do them all more good. When he lost Hosea and knew Arthur wasn’t going to be around much longer, all he had left was Micah whispering in his ear, and then Cleet and Joe. It’s all so sad 😥We just saw him spiral down and down into more and more chaos until John was tasked with hunting him down. Then his story finally came to an end at the bottom of the cliff at the fort in Cochinary...
@martinsmith81855 жыл бұрын
He lost it when he began to realise that his "cause" (the gang) was coming apart. He had built the gang with Hosea and rebelled against the establishment (which is all he ever did). He couldn't give up fighting. I imagine Red Dead 3 will be about Dutch in the height of the wild west. Perhaps we will see why he was like this. Could be really interesting, and exploring stuff like the rivalry with Colm killing his girlfriend etc. He sided with Micah in the end because he was the only one who wanted to keep the gang together, Dutch cared about everyone in the gang but cared more about the idea the gang represented, as he was a revolutionary. Arthur and John wanted out, so that's why he gave up his sons to keep the cause alive.

The thing i love most about Dutch, is that he is the most relatable human character in these games. He's not perfect, he ain't a saint but he tried to do good in his life, and he tried to keep those close to him alive and well. And the worst part of it all is that what he went through is something every single human being goes through, that being the realization that you live in a time and place where you no longer belong. Ultimately that's what seals Dutch's fate, trying to come to terms with the realization that the world he had been fighting for was now nothing more than a distant memory. Replaced by civilization, and a world that saw him as little more than a relic of a bygone era. I'm only in my 20s, but even still, thanks to the rapid advancement of technology, the world i grew up in no longer exists. It'll happen to all of us at some point. The question is, do we fight change, or do we accept the hopelessness of it all?

Dutch is a pretty hard character to analyse. A lot of people think he only became more who he really was. But Dutch always wanted to help everyone in the gang. But having Micah whispering in his ear changed his view on everything. Hosea was the one guiding Dutch and without a guide or someone he could trust he started losing his mind. Also when all the members started doubting him he got more depressed. Micah was the only one who did exactly what he wanted. This made Dutch feel comfortable near Micah. Dutch wasn’t a bad person. But his plan failed not only because of him but also because of his aggressive right man. When Hosea was alive and Dutch still believed in Arthur, Micah had a smaller role. There was a balance. Without them Micah could do whatever he wanted. First mistake was letting Micah join. Second was the ferry job in Blackwater. Hosea and Arthur had a better plan but Dutch thought otherwise. Third mistake was to not go west. Forth mistake was to rob Cornwall Good thing was he saved Sean Fifth mistake was to get in to the feud with in Rhodes. Second good thing he saved Jack Sixth mistake was leaving John behind during the bank job in Saint Denis Eighth mistake was not saving John early on Ninth mistake was letting Cleet and Joe join Tenth mistake guiding Eagle Flies to a most likely death just to get out Eleventh was leaving Arthur behind Twelfth mistake was leaving John behind Thirteenth was leaving Abigail behind Fourteenth mistake was choosing Micah over his sons even after he shot Grimshaw One good thing overall was that the train job worked. If no one lost faith from the beginning, Dutch would maybe never become the crazy maniac. They nailed the job, had an distraction and just had to get the hell out of there.

It seems like that while speaking those words he remembers all the good days spent with his fellers, and the mistakes that led him to mess everything up. People say that Dutch had always been the man we see him as in the end but I would submit an argument that: no, it is not the case. Dutch has not been that man until Micah came. Remember our conversations with Javier and Hosea? About how Dutch is different now. How he's changed since the Blackwater. And who brought the Blackwater idea to Dutch? Micah. Dutch changed before but it was never to feed his worst impulses. He had his moral codes and philosophies, he had people he cared for and fought for. But in the end, he became selfish, egotistic, and paranoid. Why? Micah made Dutch believe in his worst impulses, and it came to a head when Hosea died and Arthur grew weak. Micah could not do much at the beginning because Dutch had Hosea to counter his worst impulses, to make him see sense, and Arthur was strong enough that Dutch would listen to him and that Micah feared him. Dutch misses Hosea, but he cannot uphold Hosea's hopes for the gang. Without the two men at his side, Micah was Dutch's strongest ally now. Think about it. Dutch never abandoned the weak until Hosea died. Dutch always cared about the women and Jack until Micah started whispering in his ear. Dutch loved the gang. I believe he truly did. But Micah put a veil upon the man's eyes and he began to see things in a different way. He began killing more and more, not caring if they were helpless, whether it was women, children, or the elderly. He no longer lied low like they used to, but made noise, and lots of it. And when he was confronted with the fact that Micah was the rat this whole time, he could not choose, nor trust himself to choose. What did that cost him? His most loyal friends' deaths and a family split apart by his own shortcomings. He could not deal with the tragedies of the Van Der Linde gang and that's what drove him mad. That's what sent him down the rabbit hole of madness. That's what drives him to be the man we meet in RDR1.

I’ve seen a lot of people commenting that Ductch and Arthur were both bad people. I guess that depends on how you define a person. I know they killed,robbed, and fought the law. I don’t think Dutch was crazy. He just fought for what he thought was right. He fought for his family, the people he loved, his gang. His sons, Lenny,John, Arthur, Bill, Javier, Sean. and the son he thought was his son, that betrayed him Micah. Dutch fought and killed for people he loved. He lost people he loved, he lost the women he loved. He lost everything. But found people he started to love. He loved once again. But eventually he turned crazy. He thought the people he loved the most betrayed him. They actually just followed what he’d told them so many years ago. The code. Him (in the good ending) looking Arthur in the eyes and Arthur telling him how he gave him all he had, broke Dutch. I think it’s beautiful that the things Dutch taught Arthur and John is what made them “turn” on him. Dutch telling John the exact same thing to John as he did with Arthur when jumping was a beautiful moment. I love Dutch and I think he was always a good person that lost everything he loved and ever cared for. And then having Micah by his side in the end was his downfall.

Yes, Dutch went mad. However, you can't help but feel sorry for him when you see his reaction to Arthur dying. DUTCH himself was speechless. It was heartbreaking.

In the trolley robbery Dutch hit his head and became a bad man
@Forduss4 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it was because of that, remember Hosea and Lenny died then aswell

Forduss maybe your right, but you really think he would be bad for years and years until red dead redemption 1. He must have a head injury, but good point.

Coldest T3z traumatic events such as loved ones dying can greatly change people, it sparks hatred within them towards the people they feel are responsible, it gave Dutch a reason to kill, once he started killing he got used to it and it became second nature to him

Hosea to Dutch: You'll damn us all Arthur to Dutch if you go for the money: You let him damn us all (talking about micah)

The sad thing is, when John and Dutch met at that mountain where Dutch killed himself, John didn’t shoot him because he used to be family, not knowing that he watched Arthur die and didn’t do anything

So like.. does Dutch just attract top notch outlaws or does he just turn outlaws top notch… he has so many members under him that are like 1 man/woman armies.. he’s like the Rocks D. Xebec of the wild west(for all the one piece fans)
