am Dutch, born in 1951, lived in a rural parth in the nort of my country. I wore wooden shoes when I was a child. With socks and a thin pair of leather slippers. In school we wore the slippers, the clogs stayes outside the classrooms. When I bought my house, a former farmhouse, first thing I did was buying wooden shoes... I stil have them and wear them so now ant then... People watch me and are completely in shock... I kive in a street that is visited by thousends of tourists on bicycles.....

As child from age 3 to 6 I walked run on these, You have to use thick woolen sock if you want to run with wooden shoes, it was practical as we moved to a new house in Amsterdam ![1963) and no street pavement for quite some time.

I know a tiny bit about axes and that one is a beast. I guess its the product of many decades of experience distilled into a tool. Its huge for a one-hander, has a steep handle and its a side axe. Its a ferocious piece of kit, but this guy uses it like a scalpel. It's literally amazing to see watch this master craftsman at work.

What an artisan this gentleman is. He’s been doing this 66 years and it definitely shows with his expertise with the hand tools. Unfortunately this is going to be a lost art because there’s nobody to carry on with the trade. A real shame.🤔👍👍🇨🇦

I remember as a Kid someone brought home a pair of those wooden shoes, I think it was an Aunt. I remember putting them on and walking around the kitchen with them. As a kid they were kind of heavy for me. not too large either so i suspect they were made for a child. I was only about 7 yrs old at the time. And I'm pushing 80 now. some memories never leave us. God speed. ECF

Perfect craftmanship! Klompen are perfect shoes for gardenwork and I like to wear Klompen in combination with jeans. The only "challenge" is to buy Klonpen in perfect size , when living to far away from the border to the Netherlands. Therefore most of my shoes are sweden-style clogs. It’s beautiful to see the real craftwork as opposed to the machine tooled ones. Sadly these independent tradesmen don’t have websites like the big guys and so in a way, they’re losing out on potential trade. I’m disabled so I’d never go to the Netherlands 🇳🇱, shame really.

You have to hold your feet differently than when you wear shoes with flexible soles. You keep your feet flat rather than bending at the balls of your feet when walking. The wood is very light-weight and you don't really notice that you're wearing them. The worst part about wearing them is that you get them a bit on the large side so it can be easy to step out of them. You fix the problem of them fitting too loosely by wearing several pairs of thick wool socks.
