East Anglian here, (from right across the pond)! I recognise Zouden from the minimalist strategies some local Dutch speakers like using in their sentences. They have a habit of doing it both in English & Dutch.... paard = paardje, bos = bosje, auto = autootje, etc. Its a way of sounding more polite! Hmm, didn't realise Zouden was formal Dutch.

It's interesting to realize to what degree the verb "zouden" has a common offspring with "shall" in English which is also used either in future or conditional contexts as in polite requests - even though a bit old fashioned at times. Basically all in one word: shall, will, would, may. In German we would sometimes use proper conditionals instead of "würde" as in "wäre", "hätte", "könnte", "dürfte", "sollte", "müsste". I see it's not the case in Dutch: Ich könnte es nicht machen = "Ik zou het nicht kunnen doen". So then it should be: Ich hätte es nicht machen können" = "Ik zou het niet kunnen gedaan." Is het gelijk?

Het eerste, met zou, klinkt nadenkend. Je vraagt je dat af. Het tweede klinkt een beetje geïrriteerd. Alsof iemand of jijzelf vindt dat het tijd is om te doen en je het dus 'moet' doen. Een subtiel verschil, ligt ook aan de manier waarop je het zegt. Als je het woord 'moet' sterk benadrukt in de tweede zin klinkt het zelfs heel erg geïrriteerd

The Williams sisters, Raven and Eddie talking in English, Lili talking in French and some dude from Tekken 7 talking in Spanish! XD They first started their nonsensical tight fisted voice acting with the very first game from Soul Calibur, Tekken’s not as popular younger brother of a fighting game, Soul Edge for the PS1. All the Europeans talking in English and the Asians in Japanese! 😝😂 Yes! It was mostly subbed!
