I greeted someone from South Africa, in Dutch, ( because I didn't know to in Afrikaans) and she very beautifully replied "Aangenaam kennis!", which was immediately understandable. Afrikaans is a very beautiful language also.

I’m Australian, but my pop was Dutch. It’s such a shame because he never got around to teaching the family how to speak Dutch. He however did teach us the word Dag and every time we’d leave my grandparents house we’d always say that to him instead of saying goodbye. He sadly passed away 2 years ago, so Dag is a really special and meaningful world for my family now.

I really wish they didn’t though because for my whole life I’ve had to put up with people pronouncing it as Dick-stra, which is so embarrassing. 😂

Goedenacht! I've been trying to learn Dutch for nearly a year now, but nothing has worked very well. I think having someone to interact with and "homework" to do will help a lot. If these classes can get me to the point of being able to hold basic conversation with my dutch partner, I'll gladly sign up for all classes, since I eventually want to reside in the netherlands.
