The Genesis version is great. The Disturbed version is great as well. Thank you to Genesis for making the original in their own style. Thanks to Disturbed for putting their own spin on it. Both versions, with their distinct styles, are amazing.

Like Assad...killing, oh, EVERYONE he can of his own people...until President Trump stopped him. (Syria for those who didn't know. Yeah, he killed 500,000 people under Obama's administration, despite his saying he'd do something about it...he didn't.) Kim Jong Un and his firing failing SRBCs. Thank God they failed, but what if that fat, nasty little despot is successful with an ICBW? Say goodbye to San Francisco or my hometown, Seattle. Then there's Vladimir Putin. He isn't exactly a sweet little man. He's Bug-S!#= CRAZY...Just hides it well. . So, yes. The men of power are losing control...of their MINDS...by the hour.

I love the fact that this song was originally a song by Genesis which commented on a Conservative government run by Margaret Thatcher during the cold war in Britain at that time in the eighties. I also love the fact that this song has a double barrelled meaning by today's standards (by the cover band Disturbed) as both an anti establishment song about the west (Which Genesis meant it to be as much as Disturbed) and an equally modern anti-Conservative government song which has as much meaning to a British audience today as it had at the time of the original songs release. For that reason I salute this song.

I actually just found out there was a new version by disturbed. I actually heard this on the radio today ("this" as in THIS) and I was having a really great time singing at the top of my lungs because I miss my mom and this was one of her favorite songs, so I made a promise to myself to watch the video when I got home. So, I found the video, marveled again at how insane and weird it is, but noticed that there wasn't the "ha, ha, ha" thing after they say "this is the land of confusioooonnnn." So I looked at the comments and someone was all like "Disturbed sucks they just made a decent cover to an already good song" so I looked this up, and ta-da. So, I was not able to tell the difference between the two until I listened to them back-to-back, which can say a couple things: Either disturbed did bad when it came to originality, or they did really good singing and performing the song. I'm actually glad they didn't make drastic changes. The voice for this version is also darker and screamier for my taste, but it's a very slight thing that would only bother me when it's compared to the original. On its own, the disturbed version sounds awesome. And, on its own, the genesis version sounds awesome.

I must've dreamed a thousand dreams Been haunted by a million screams I can hear the marching feet They're moving into the street. Now did you read the news today They say the danger's gone away But I can see the fire's still alight Burning into the night. Too many men Too many people Making too many problems And not much love to go round Can't you see This is a land of confusion. This is the world we live in And these are the hands we're given Use them and let's start trying To make it a place worth living in. Superman where are you now When everything's gone wrong somehow The men of steel, men of power Are losing control by the hour. This is the time This is the place So we look for the future But there's not much love to go round Tell me why, this is a land of confusion. This is the world we live in And these are the hands we're given Use them and let's start trying To make it a place worth living in. I remember long ago When the sun was shining The stars were bright All through the night And the sound of your laughter As I held you tight So long ago I won't be coming home tonight My generation will put it right We're not just making promises That we know, we'll never keep. Too many men Too many people Making too many problems And not much love to go round Can't you see This is a land of confusion. This is the world we live in And these are the hands we're given Use them and let's start trying To make it a place worth fighting for. I frequently hum this song to myself more and more, and not out of a love for the song. The song is good, no doubt, but it's relevant as hell.
