October 2016 - The recent changes with the new president has not deterred us. Essentially we feel that Duterte will cut deals with China and maybe even Russia which should hopefully with the new USA administration in 2017 rushing to the Philippines to counter offers. The Philippines is in a very unique situation of at least the two of the major richest countries and and 3 of the largest superpowers all vying for trade and helping the Philippines. If the president can pull all this off and keep everyone in line the money pouring into the Philippines will be immense.

Mark you definitely know your stuff reg Philippines 🇵🇭 and I'm glad you are tuning out some of his anti American antics but at the end of the day Philippines 🇵🇭 will always side with America when push come to shove but Duterte just wants to elevate Philippines 🇵🇭 to next level develop infrastructure to first world standard .

I agree Duterte outspokenness makes quick headlines and his clarifications do not make headlines. But I do believe Duterte has stuck to what he campaigned on and also his past policies as mayor. So it seems a bit strange to me that United States and others just can't believe what he saying and doing. I believe that that he is playing both sides of the game. Cut deals with China. Cut deals with Russia and wait for the US to jump back after a new administration appears in 2017 to win back his favor. Now it is possible the US might cut visa acceptance or other things but this would be a seriously stupid move by the United States. United States needs to understand that they have used the Philippines for wargames, they have had advisors in southern Philippines to get rid of terrorist but haven't. And even recently had wargames with the Philippines Navy but then said they wouldn't sell arms to the Philippines. Wow that is crazy. The Philippines has millions of workers in the United States. Even the head chefs of the White House are Filipinos I know because I've had one of them cook for me and my relatives. The United States has had good relationship with the Philippines however the US needs to understand it is not helping the Philippines with its infrastructure, power problems or other issues. Philippines has grown at a good GDP for 10 years, better than the United States. And now the Philippines has an opportunity to cut a deal with the second largest richest country in the world, China, that's literally in it's backyard. Duterte asked the US ambassador months ago if he would back the Philippine Navy in exerting force on China . The US ambassador said no only going to follow the defense treaty which would only protect the Philippine main islands. So what choice did the Duterte have? China and Russia are both reaching out their hand partly because they want to have ties with the country that has been exclusively the USA's for 70 years ... It's a strategic move with a massive amount of money from those countries to help the Filipinos grow their infrastructure. While under any other administration that money might disappear but I think under Duterte will actually make sure the money makes it to the people in the sense of infrastructure such as roads, power systems and essentially jobs. Has the US offered to do this at that level? This could push Philippines growth beyond its steady point to explosive growth. It's a dangerous game but on the other hand it has a huge upside and probably any businessman would love to have the biggest suppliers at his doorstep instead of just one that's not helping his bottom line. In its simplest form you can also say that if you can't beat them ( China) then join them. However I don't think Duterte will cut ties with the US. But he will restrict many military moves with the United States that would upset his new partners. And I think he understands what is the point of all these military maneuvers if you can't use them offensively to protect the Spratly's that the world court has said are the Philippine's? I don't see this affecting retirement in any way in the Philippines other than this momentarily bump in the road. The peso will go a erratic, stocks will drop everyone will say the sky is falling. By the time everyone wakes up to the idea that there is new construction throughout the Philippines going on they will have missed the opportunity to invest in something very big.

I am a FilAm and plan to retire in the Philippines 🇵🇭 but U.S. Will always be my home my boys live in Minnesota so I'll be visiting them there also. You r right if u have fixed income and want to raise your standard of living philippines 🇵🇭 is a great choice very westernized country and no matter who the President in the Philippines 🇵🇭 whether with Duterte or next Philippines will always be pro American because of the long ties between them. But I understand current President is doing to put the Philippines agenda ahead of any countries and I say it's about time. So I support his agenda which is mainly to uplift the lives of the disadvantaged Filipinos. With infrastructure projects and drug war and eradication of corruption hopefully Philippines will be in the rightful place to achieve middle income status in the League of Nations.😊

You're absolutely right I couldn't agree with you more. My home will always be the US it is sense at least that's what my US passport will say. But to retire in the Philippines does mean to enjoy all the Philippines has to offer. With baby boomers retiring in the United States I would imagine it would be even harder to get into see a doctor or even get simple care. You can look at every financial planning out there but one that lowers costs like moving to the Philippines just makes sense. Besides the Philippines is fun many beautiful areas lots to do and food everywhere go go to someone's house you have to bring some cholesterol medicine with you! I believe Duterte is doing what he has to do he has no strong backing from the United States to push back China so by cutting deals with China, Japan, Korea and even Russia he is in a sense eliminating potential enemies and using the money to further help the Filipino people. When you get some of those deals I truly believe he will then shake hands with the United States and asked the United States so what are you going to do to compete with these other Asian countries. From a financial point it could be a win-win his presidency. This all works out for future retirees as infrastructure gets better and English-speaking nurses maids chauffeurs are all very willing to have a job and the Americans are very willing to hire them. I also think the newscast a bad shadow on concentrating on the tough drug enforcement side and paying no attention to the fact that the president of the Philippines probably made more people that were drug addicts turn themselves in and seek rehabilitation in the shortest period of time in the history of the world... If you threaten the drug addicts in the United States you know how many would show up rehabilitation ...zero

This guy knows his stuff. Although it's just an Ad, he's one of the few Americans that doesn't blast out what the MSM says. I hope, even as a Filipino, would be a able to retire in your facility in Tagaytay. You'll love the fresh Pineapples everyday. :)

I've always see Duterte as a tough guy that wants the best for his people. He sees a generation of young people that could be engulfed with drugs. As strange as this may sound in United States if you were to say everyone who selling or taking illegal drugs is going to get shot unless they turn themselves and I guarantee you no one would show up at the rehabilitation centers. However in the Philippines thousands have shown up to enter in the drug rehabilitation. What I am a shameful of is the world countries to not jump in the help those that are trying to seek rehabilitation regardless of how you might not of liked how they got there. Duterte trying to stop crime and corruption... As Americans we tend to forget the Chicago mobsters in the 20s in which we sent in government men known as G-man with machine guns to apply whatever force necessary to kick butt... Duterte has had to deal with a lot of issues from south tp way north . In talking the many Filipinos they still feel he's doing what needs to be done

Mark we dont hate Americans,for retirees we like them a lot, my father enjoys talking to Americans and Brits who retires or expats,we like talking to you because you guys have a lot of stories to tell, specially for us who gives us a different perspective of the world. the Philippines is Just doing some house keeping against drug addicts,corrupt government officials. As for the Chinese, we dont want a war we are not going to win. Just come over its going to be a lot safer against petty crimes, and drug addicts. We hated drug addicts but before we could not do anything, because we knew somebody powerful in the government was protecting them, at least now we know who they are. You could at least walk in Manila.Saw some tourist in downtown manila, before you as foreigners couldn't do that because of some petty crime. Just come over the Philippines hasn't changed much, except for criminals being jailed and junkies being captured.

Tagaytay area is the best option....It is high elevated plus cool weather.....No flooding, and nice restaurants, good hotels like Taal Vista and beautiful view/lake....Entertainment and access to good hospitals, International School like AIIAS.....They will build an LRT (train) to Manila and Clark.....Cavite is very big.......Tagaytay is an awesome choice

On the contrary, it depends on what your goals are in life. Most retirees want security, comfortable place to live, cool breezes that don't bite into their wallet for extra electricity and fun local things to do better age-related. Tagaytay has like five golf courses and is a very safe area. Now I agree I love the beach and I'll be on the bus to the beach with the rest the retirees a bunch of times. But living at the beach has serious problems whether you're in Florida, New Jersey or Philippines storms can rip your place the pieces so it's better to just rent those things when we want them and go back to much more fortified place to live up to take on what nature doles out. If you very young I understand Tagaytay is more of a chillout place and not crazy wild I get

edmhie1 but not to the point that it involve people of other country. I will admit Philippine government is one of the most corrupt government in Asia. But the corruption is just inside my country. unlike US government it involve other nation. one example is CIA interfering in other country politics.

Why not retire in usa
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration
@MarkBurnettTheIslandGeneration 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Micheal You ask why not live in good old USA....answer I want to my Lower Cost ! Even the middle-class retiree can become upper-class and have a maid and maybe a chauffeur in the Philippines . In the US the cost of retirement is going up. Look at the medical situation can't even get into see a doctor...think about it right now 10,000 retirees reach 65 every single day in the United States that will continue happening for the next 15 years . Think if you woke up each day and all your chores were taking care of for a couple bucks and you could go down to the medical clinic in our community and see the nurse or doctor anytime you want. Go to a restaurant in the community where the prices are the same you would pay if you cook it yourself. Only then you begin to understand what I'm doing I'm taking advantage of retirement globalization. Where retirees with guaranteed income move to a place where an enormous amount of English-speaking nurses and medical people, cooks, maids, and helpers are in abundance. As a retiree it is highly unlikely that you'll ever make more money regardless of what every TV ad says are that somehow you're going to invest funds and the guy who's having you invest them isn't going to make a huge commission off your savings. What I'm suggesting is totally different ...simply lower your cost assume you're not going to make more money in retirement what you got is what you got so it becomes important to stretch it out lower cost but what I'm proposing is to increase your standard of living at the same time and live with a group of like-minded Americans. That's The Island Generation
