Having sung a cappella for 30+ years with several different groups, and listening to more contemporary a cappella bands than you can shake a stick at, I feel experienced enough to know that it can be tough, for some reason, for a cappella bands to write and perform original songs that don't sound like an a cappella group. There's some sort of intangible "thing" that keeps people from taking songs like that seriously. Obviously, there are bands that can do it: Rockapella, Take 6, The Nylons... but, for the vast majority, it seems out of reach. I don't know why. You guys nailed it with this one. I can listen to this, and the novelty of "no instruments" is not the focus here. Great lyrics, awesome raps, fantastic production. It's alive. Good job, y'all. You should be proud of yourselves. After so long in the a cappella world, you've become a force to be reckoned with. Well done.

I started my first professional, contemporary a cappella group in college (1995), performing covers and a few originals. (I was choir before choir was cool. LOL) I've seen _a lot_ of vocal bands come and go, and Duwende continues to be one of my all-time favorites! I can see now that, in addition to being magnificent covers in their own right, all of their previous work _also_ served a "wood shed" function...not just honing their skill as performers but as arrangers, composers, and lyricists...so when _today_ came, they'd already have everything dialed in, and that "next level" would be a perfectly natural step.
