I've been playing guitar for over 55 years and people are very kind and say what a good player I am but the truth is I'm only good enough to understand how mediocre I am compared to an absolute genius like Jimmy is, he's on another planet from the rest of us.

Hou vol!

Yesssssss.... we hbben verkering! Jim the Roseman in Amsterdam. Voor de muziekale cultuur en mogelijkheden waarschijnlijk de beste plaats van Nederland. Voor de verleidingen de slechtste. Zei Ocscar Wilde niet al "I can resist everything, except temptation"

@Jigov Zigeuner (spelled like that) is Dutch word. But I get your point, this guy probably wasn't referring to the Dutch word in specific. My bad!

I meant No disrespect to the Gypsy guitar players. Django has influenced the greats. The Rosenbergs are unbelievable. Bireli Lagrene is my favorite. Etc. I just think the comment that gypsy guitar players do not need teachers is a bit off.

@thebookofjoy Seems to me like he meant that only a few people in the world can improvise, and not just play set pieces (which is totally true). Then he says that there might be only two-three people in the world like Birelli Lagrene and Jimmy Rosenberg, which is more of a relative subjective statement :P So not _that_ bad of a comment imo.
@gr0mithtimon14 жыл бұрын
@thebookofjoy He says " there are only a few in the current generation of gipsy musicians" and from that you infer he is talking about classical music. Hey, nice one buddy.

Hey jayz551- You said gypeis or gypsies do not need teachers. Then why did Bireli Lagrene study under Larry Coryell for so long? And try using a period in your sentences.

@jayz551: My point was that you _aren't_ all thieves or criminals. In the same way, you aren't "born" with the music in your blood. These are cultural adaptations, and in the case of these three "rumours", all nonsense.
