Hi Dwain, Did you find as a youngster that you were able to lift heavy weight naturally as a result of being naturally blessed as a sprinter (i.e. higher % of fast twitch muscle fibers?). Do almost all sprinters have very impressive stats naturally even before years or decades of weight training? Thanks

C B Good question!! I'm still able to lift just as heavy, however with age and responsibilities I have to rest for longer periods of time and not lift as frequently.

Is heavy weight lifting really necessary to improve sprinting? I spoke with a coach who trains a 100m sprinter and a 400m sprinter/runner who do not lift weights at all. Their time is 10.20 and 46.00. With do you think about that?

@J 0 what about jumpers(LJ, TJ, PV) and throwers(DT, JT, SP)? Would they need to to lift weight? Would body weight training be enough? Who are those sub 10 guys who never lifted weights? I guess they do tons of plyos in place of weights, right?

I wouldn't recommend lifting without a belt as I now suffer with lots of lower back problems.

@@CL-fg5ne Calf jump? Sure calves were involved as were a lot of other muscles. He went down into a squat and jumped on the way up. For a calf jump he would need straight legs all the time. This way his quads and glutes did almost 100% of the work. Maybe calves help just a little bit on the end. Anyway a 170kg calf jump would be more impressive.

Ben Johnson would squat 250kg and could do 700 lbs that's phenomenal for a guy who only weighed 75kg Dwain was on steroids too people say it was only Ben's drugs but any guy could take drugs and not be about to do that, especially at a light middleweight frame, it was his unique physiology, basically almost pure white muscle fibre
