@@dennisrogers6786 Is is not an in depth deep sky review more of a 2 reviews mixed together, 1. Wido compares more the field of view, 2. for a detailed comparison he should have processed images in the the same way as i did in pixisight and do atleast some of the tests i did, unfortunatly Wido video does not give you any real answers wich is better, i did not see that in the deep sky tests or at the end of the video. But anyway even if seestar would work perfect in eqmode, still will not be able to beat the d3, giving same integration time the quality is about the same, and the dwarf 3 has the huge advantage of the field of view

I was about to buy the S50, but was not thrilled with the small FOV and while I'm aware of the Mosaic feature, to me it seems like it would just add a lot of extra time and processing to get a wider image. I'd rather have the wider FOV built into the device. So while I wish I could just order the S50 to have something NOW, I put in an order for the Dwarf3. Your review was definitely a big part of my decision making process. Thank you for the comprehensive information that was explained well enough that even though I know very little, it made sense.

My main take away after using Dwarf3 is amazement of how well it compares not just to the similar priced Seestar, but how it holds up to the even more expensive bots…. It’s not so much a judgement by me of which is better… it’s how well it stands on its own, even with the initial software provided, when I take it out I have a confidence that I’m going to get a very nice capture, I think that says a lot. It does take me 10+ minutes to set up in eq mode though…. No biggie but when your use to just setting your bot out there and be imaging in minutes.. the extra time is notable

Excellent comparison and In depth analysis of the two. Just confirms what I always thought. The equatorial mode is a game changer, and more than makes up for the smaller aperture on the D3. Not to mention the wide angle lense and other functions the dwarf 3 has that the seestar doesn't. Thank you

Thank you for the review. Not sure if you mentioned it or not, working and didn't pay close enough attention. After a quick search I think the biggest advantage of the Dwarf 3 is the availability of extra batteries. From what I have seen there is no way to replace, at least easily, the batteries on a S50. The Dwarf 3 has additional batteries available on their website.

Your welcome, unfortunatly the batteries you saw are for dwarf2, dwarf 3 has internal batteries. the main advantages of d3 over s50 are larger field of view, smaller more mobile, and dual lens with the posibility of capturing the Milky Way with the Secondary Lens, Equatorial mode. Longer exposures of 60s, and also featurs like object tracking,bird tracking, ufo tracking or gigapixel panorama

Have not printed yet but i plan to print even the wide field lens shots that i got with milky way and aurora! the 4k images from telephoto lens will look even ebtter at print, as long you have a good image quality you should be fine, details with telephoto lens are impressive in 4k

Printing can be a tricky thing and depends on how big you want to go, but there have been advances in a.i. generated algorithms that will double resolution… you just have to be careful with them and watch out for artifacts and detail loss… but they do seem worthy and are made with printing in mind. The other thing is if your printer company offers level correction for an extra charge, this can be worth doing… when we post process for computers and web sharing, the results in printing will often be much darker… people experienced with their printing equipment have a much bettter idea of what to set for best results

Hello, glad the video helped. I am not sure if posible to stack them with ease, because of difference in resolution, d3 has 8 mp and s50 2mp, you can try use a stack of d3 and s50 and see if is able tos tack in siril or not, another option is tos tack the single files of s50 using 2x drizzle that should give a final 8 mega pixels tack and stack that with d3. Would be nice if the platform or application would allow "co-op" mode. Example. Would be amazing if me having clear skies in Cape Town, South Africa able to grab shots of different areas on different nights (almost like mapping it from my co-ordinates). Then somehow sharing it via platform or maybe a friends group, as other people on different side of the world that also has night would have other angles and different view.

I'm still on the fence about which one to choose, but seeing this though, I think I prefer the wider field of view of the Dwarf 3. I think seeing a whole nebula against a background of stars rather than more zoomed in wins it. I have been looking at both of these this past week as winter approaches (the best viewing where I live). I am very much an amateur in the astro area of photography, but I'd like to change that. I live in one of the most light polluted areas of the country, and the results with my cameras have been less than inspiring, so I just haven't put much energy into until now. But I find myself with a lot of time on my hands nowadays, and nothing to affect how I schedule my time, so it feels like the perfect time to jump in, especially considering the relative affordability of equipment right now. I'll likely watch this several times to take it all in, as while I'd love to have both and compare them myself from an amateur's perspective, a recent hurricane has drastically altered my budget and I'll have to choose just one...and I am almost stressed about the decision. This should help considerably. Thank you for what you do.

Comprehensive review! Would be fun to try one out. However, I am trying to understand how other $1000 telescopes with dedicated camera (as I don't have an Astro quality DSLR) would perform. Would need tripod and tracking mount. This may run $2000+. $500 for a Dwarf III or put that toward a better system? And then, what system? The Dwarf has other features such as portability but if I want serious space photos it seems a $2000+ system is the way to go(?). All I have done so far is to stack some photos taken with a Canon T1i. Played with GIMP with downloaded Astro files, such as from Astro Backyard. I'm getting the hang of it. Next is to have something to take images with. Thanks for doing this review!

Your welcome, thanks for feedback. D3 is a very food way to start since the price is very good for what you get in return. Serious Astro rigs are in between 5k and 15 k us $ or more. My 10 inch telescope rig is about 8500$ with color cam and with mono cam about 10k $ but there are alsomsome cheaper setups, like from 2500 to 5000$ so to get noticable difference in your astrophotograpgy you need to spend a lot of money, and that is another reason why dwarf 3 is a great telescope to start with

Thanks for this great video! I own a D2 and am waiting for the D3, so I am happy with the quality of the Dwarf's images :-) To be honest, though, the better resolution of the S50 remains a strong point for the ZWO smart telescope.. I hope for a future S60 or S70, so the difference in use with the D3 will be even more obvious: one for wide fields and one for smaller objects.

So, I’ve also imaged Alnitak with my SeeStar S50, and I definitely didn’t see any halos. Are you sure you’re using the right filters? Or that your unit isn’t faulty?

Very detailed comparison 👍🏻 I begun my smart scope jurney with a D2. Then I bought a S50 and sold the D2 because the Seestar produced much better results. Then I headed to a Vepera 2 which caused me to sell the Seestar. In May I heard about the upcoming release of the D3 and jumped on the preordering train. I like the idea of having a small scope for easy taking on trips. The result images seen so far look very promising too. But the continuing delays in shipping estimations finally lead me to the decision to cancel my preorder. For now I stick with my V2 even if it is out for warranty repair currently.

Thanks for your direct comparisons between the two scopes on the same object. I agree with your observations. I was one of the first 1000 purchasers of the Dwarf III in May and received it last month. I haven't had a chance to use it much so far, but from the images I have been getting, it is much much better than the Dwarf II. The images from the Dwarf II always seemed noisy and took lots of stacked images to start getting a reasonable image. I never used the Dwarf II much. The Dwarf III gave me a clean, smooth, much less noisy image from the start and continued to improve as it stacked. I also have the Seestar S50 and the Vaonis Vespera II and the Unistellar Equinox. I didn't use the Equinox that night and see it as more of an electronically assisted astronomy scope than an imaging scope. Their addition of Deep Dark Technology DDT which enhanced contrast made exposures worse by causing circular artifacts in the images and it still hasn't been fixed. The Vespera II, which is an f5 scope, took longer to build an image, and ran out of memory early. I didn't have a laptop nearby to download the images, so it was done for the night. The Seestar S50 was imaging the Bubble Nebula, and the Dwarf III was in equatorial mode imaging the the Andromeda galaxy. Over the same duration imaging that night, I was most impressed with the Dwarf III capture because it stacked almost every image captured. The Seestar S50 rejected a large number of the images and still looked rough by the end of the imaging session. Just from the scope, the Andromeda galaxy showed lots of detail in the spiral arms with the entire image being evenly exposed. I agree with your observations between the two scopes too and am glad you did this comparison.

That is normal. you can not get the same image quality with dwarf 2, sensor is not as good, smaller aperture and smaller focal length, let s say you have enough itnegration for an iamge with dwarf 3 you can take 1 million frames with dwarf2 and still not match it

@@GalaxyArtMedia How can a company make an Eq mode and say not to use it? I don't think that is accurate. If they think it will brake they would not make it a mode.

@@pssita There is no eq mode for the seestar telescopes, some people use the telescope aligned to polaris, to use it as an equatorial mode, but against zwo recomandations, safe to say on their own risk. Seestar s50 and 30 are by default alt azimuth telescopes, dwarf3 is alt az and eq since is made specialy to perform good in both modes without issues.

And also not a fairly compared as you should have both in Alt Alz mode and fail to mention you can EQ mount the Seestar

Well to be fairer you should have used the D3 in Alt alz mode. Heaps of owners setting up seestar as an eq mounted scope. Remember D2 was never meant to be eq mounted and now is common
