Dwarf Fortress, the most unique colony simulator game you've most likely never played, but you've heard many tales from.
For those who've played it, have had the highs and lows of one of the greatest games.
This is one of my favorite games, with all the Ubisoft drama, I need a palate cleanser.

Fun fact with the cat story: The reason the cats were dying was that the cats were soaking up a full mug of beer onto one paw and drinking it in one tick, triggering all 5 layers of alcohol poisoning it simulates, so they just limited the rate cats clean themselves at. So even today, that means any cat that wanders through your tavern will be a bit buzzed for a while after

In Guild wars 2. You can directly open a wiki page via the gnrl chat. On holding and cliquing the item. Df should have that. Edit: best review of the game. My go-to for describe dr is to explain that you can see tears in the eyes of dwarfs if they cried.

Ah yes I remember that from my brief visit into GW2. I think that would do wonders for new players, though I imagine some purists would be screaming "That's not how you play DF" But, for us new mortals that haven't hit the grindstone, I think it'd really help newer players out. Thanks for the kind words, honestly, meant a lot. Love the way you view drs XD

It's probably not a tough thing to mod in, honestly. With the level of things people have done with mods, it's probably doable. It could even be done as a DFHack script, a command that reads selected item, and opens the system default browser to the wiki page

You should play more Dwarf Fortress - I love seeing how other people's fort design evolves over time. Right now I'm literally just cheating at the game with DFhack to build a bunch of cool forts really fast because I want to *really* try adventure mode. I've tried it and honestly, it's not nearly the experience it can be unless you have a decently lived-in world to explore. A lot of the game-generated cities aren't as intuitive as your own designs will be, and I think even my cheat-built world with lots of various cities that I built quickly will feel more interesting than most of my worlds that just have one huge fort that I know perfectly. In those forts, I'll have like 250-750 population, there will be like 50 with personalized names, multiple burrows, little outposts, but only one fort like that. I'd rather have a bunch of smaller worse versions of that with a bunch of characters I never interacted with and only knew for like 2 in-game years while I hastily hacked stuff into existence to build them a home and then sat around for awhile while they build stuff so there will be things to find in adventure mode. I think the "interacting with the game" thing is a very good point. If you want to really interact with the game and be able to find NPCs easily, you might want to download a save file from the Dwarf Fortress forum if you explore the RPG side for a video! It'll be easier and faster for a video than building your own map with a bunch of cool forts. There are some heavily lived-in maps you can download, I think. That human touch of a map designed by a person can be helpful when navigating.

Been tempted to run DFHack, but building from scratch and watching it slowly come together is so rewarding. It gives me that high that other games just don't give. Really excited to give more time to adventure mode (Once I put a few more forts on the map) Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment =)

You're a genius. Tbh, I haven't been messing with Adventure mode and the biggest reason why was because the randomly generated forts are 1% cool and 99% what the heck is this... I'll have to look into dfhack's debugging and see if I can hand-craft some cool empires.

@@Welshie1 yeah, same - I always have DFHack running just because, sometimes ridiculous things happen that I can't fix without it. But usually I only use it to save a fort when there's a flying swarm of harmless enemies that are keeping my whole population from doing anything because dwarves will literally starve or dehydrate before backing down from a "fight", even if it's just a few agitated birds that are each smaller than a baby's fist. (I like to build high so I crank up the max aboveground Z levels and with so many Z levels, sometimes agitated birds are close enough to scare my dwarves but too far away to actually hit with a crossbow) I just want to get a feel for adventure mode's performance so I know how big I can build without making it unplayable. I found my biggest forts were sometimes too big and full of NPCs to play in - framerate had me moving like one tile every 10sec... But the game-generated forts are the opposite. Either it's so spread out that you can't find anyone, or you see literally no people until you hit that one building, and then you're packed in with 100 NPCs, with like 5 on each tile and your framerate dies until you leave (which takes like 5min moving at 1 tile every 10 seconds). It's hard to tell exactly how the game will handle different designs as of right now and I want to figure out what works going forward, since I plant to play a lot of adventure mode once it's out of beta.

Ahh I see, maybe I might tinker with DFHack then, once I've hit the cap that I can playing it "honest" Then see how far I can go with it and then give adventure mode a spin.
