To further the connection to The Beast, there's been a fair few references to 73 yards. Not the episode, necessarily, but the *distance*. That's the distance the CCTV camera is from the church. The distance that Ruby's Mother is from baby Ruby when she stops walking (someone did the math on that using the actual IRL location). And you know what 73 yards is? 66.6 metres. Number of the Beast.

I had a thought: what if the Beast was an aspect of Sutekh that he created as a backup like the One Ring from Lord of the Rings, or maybe even a new body of some kind, but the Beast was trapped by an unknown advanced civilization? It could have been the Ossirians but we never get any mention of the Beast and the Ossirians together, nor does the language written on the walls of the Impossible Planet seem to be the Ossirian language. It's a fascinating idea that there were multiple god-like precursor races before Time began like the Ossirians and whatever race captured the Beast. Star Wars does something similar, but it's just at the very beginning of our knowledge of the Star Wars Galaxy

Given that Set/Sutekh is the opposing counterpart to Horus and his animal is the falcon, the Egyptian hunting bird, I'm in favour of the Set animal being the Egyptian hunting dog (the Kaluki does bear a striking resemblance). It would fit thematically and would be an animal capable of going feral (a Sutekh trait!) during the intermediate and civil war periods.

I adore Sutekh because I find the challenge of the character the most interesting part. How do you write a character who, if unleashed from their prison, could theoretically stop the show? I find that fascinating. Also Gabriel Wolf coming back is just amazing in the role and i hope this is a good send off for the character.

Anubis is a jackal if I recall so that rules out a jackal, and there's not really wolves in Egypt (maybe in far distant times), and when you combine those facts with the Set animal being a feral Egyptian hunting dog and the mythology that supports it, it just fits so well for the "character" of Set

Fun fact: The Set-animal has puzzled Egyptologists for a long time. If you google it it has an overall canine-looking body but the ears are square-ish, it has a droopy snout and a forked tail, so not exactly a jackal.

I really want to see the Pantheon together in the main series at some point. Just imagine the absolute CHEMISTRY the Trickster, the Toymaker, and Sutekh alone would have, let alone the Maestro and the other members of the Pantheon

So my theory is when the 4th cast Sutekh into the time vortex his end point was where we see him in the Impossible planet. Fixed point of time and infinite hence a black hole. But I think because he is doing stuff with the vortex Suhtekh used his influence to create a tear in reality / trap whatever, doctor goes back to it twice and weakens it and here we are. I do like the idea that the Beast and Sutekh are connected/the same. Impossible Planet/Satan Pit were some of the first episodes I ever saw of the show, and its what I have in mind when I want the show to explore more god-like beings. Looking forward to watching the finale in cinema (first time since the 50th!). Hopefully there wont be a powercut halfway through the screening like last time.

Yeah, I have been thinking that the Beast and Sutekh are the same being, seeing that they both are different forms of the devil, one from Egyptian mythology and Abrahamic religion. Especially after, Ruby's mother flat out called Sutekh, the Beast, it basically confirmed it for me. Whether or not they are, only RTD knows, but I'd say they probably are. Great video dude!

Aren't you kind of bumbed out they are retconning those stories from big finish? I'm not even gonna lie, 8th doctors full audio run from main range to boxsets is better than the 10th doctors run. 6th doctors arc with eveline smythe is crazy crazy good better than a lot of companion drama. 7th doctors arc with hex and ace when they fight the toymaker and later fight nobody/noone which is probably the most powerful adversary the doctor has actually had to face the wordlord. Like there is so much more i could talk about but its sad to see them discredit writers who have done better arcs than the show.

depends- big finish has high highs and ridiculous lows. all of the worst dr who stories i have ever consumed have been big finish stories. Sutekh's return was in a Bernice Summerfield story and then later a particularly anticlimactic 4th dr adventure. not very good episodes.

They’re set before Pyramids of Mars and feature Osirians, time lords fighting a time war against a mysterious enemy and other powers playing off against each other. Really well written and acted. I kind of agree with you on Big Finish too - there are some great stories there occasionally but way more lazy dross and the average quality is okayish. I was more of a fan of the Who books but I’ve mostly passed on Big Finish.

In terms of retconning Big Finish have plenty that themselves too - Ace’s story and development in the Virgin New Adventures is ignored and very different to Ace in the Big Finish audios. Roz and Kadiatu have both briefly appeared in Big Finish audios but while I was a big fan of their characters in the books in the Big Finish audios I listened to with they were mischaracterised extremely badly and unrecognisable as the characters and it was painful to listen to. I wondered whether the audio writer had actually read anything with the characters in before. There are loads of retcons and inconsistencies in Who anyway - is the Doctor a human from the 51st century, half human or a Gallifreyan? Was he born, or weaved on a loom, or adopted as a founding? Due to time travel and time wars his life is a patchwork of ever changing inconsistencies. There’s a good discussion about it Unnatural History.
