If you’re based in Asia and the pacific and Austria is too far for you, try Baumkuchen out in Japan, too! It’s also just as moist and tender there and not too sweet like a lot of western desserts I have encountered! Baumkuchen has become so popular in Japan that even 7-11 convenience stores have started to sell Baumkuchen as a pastry that’s packaged!

Rules are different in other countries than the States. They also have cleaner ingredients than we do.

@@heathercontois4501 I'm based in Scandinavia and regardless of rules, absolutely no commercial baker/food manufacturer would touch food without wearing gloves.

@@11laila11 You and I know we wouldn't...now. I worked in the food industry for 15 years, starting at 17. We don't know the actual film date for this particular video, which means it could have been filmed during the time frame where not all areas of food handling had gloves. I remember the shift from no gloves to raw food wore gloves to all food prep wore gloves and to even no open cold drink prep behind the counter unless it was from a non fountain machine. I am only 41 and these changes were only a couple years to 5 years apart in some cases. This information should be taken into consideration as far as standards of service go.
@waltersolomon90492 күн бұрын
@heathercontois4501 My mom worked in food service since the early 80s, she retired in 2011, and they always used gloves during her time. Obviously, different countries have different standards though. And "cleaner ingredients" doesn't mean cleaner hands.
@heathercontois45012 күн бұрын
@@waltersolomon9049 Agreed. It's not just different countries though. I've noticed as rulles upgrade and change, that they vary from state to state in the U.S. as well. Now, I will say, in my duration in food service we had a very strict hand washing policy that was adhered to, because we didn't wear gloves at the time. However, it still remained when we did move to hand glove use, and I actually saw a couple people I worked with just wash their gloves and go back to prepping or cooking something else, that was supposed to require a change of gloves. When I broight it up with my superiors, they shrugged it off. I didn't understand this, as there was a stronger chance of cross-contamination from just washing gloves (they aren't the same as sking that doesn't fold onto itself or absorb things like plastic type gloves do) as opposed to removing the gloves and thoroughly washing your hands. It's one of the reasons I left.

Could we be talking about cultural appropriation from the Hungarian chimney cake, which might be the origins of this?
@CptToast_3 жыл бұрын
Chimney cakes have one layer of thicker dough wrapped around the cylinder it’s baked on. Baumkuchen has multiple layers of dough applied one after another. Tbh I really couldn’t care less if it was inspired by chimney cakes or not. There’s so much shared culture on that continent. And if you go by that logic, most European foods have been „appropriated“ and adeptness over time. Every European country has their own version of some meaty filling wrapped in pasta dough like Ravioli, Maultaschen or Piroggen. So maybe let’s not throw the word „appropriation“ in there.

Both chimney cake and Baumkuchen are different variations of spit cake, there's no cultural appropriation going on
@Kackpuh2 жыл бұрын
They are completely different cakes. Nobody knows how old the Kürtőskalács really is and famously enough nobody knows who invented it, the Germans in Romania and the Hungarians in Romania both claim it as their own. And cultural appropriation is just a silly cincept. If you would really take that seriously most people in the world wouldn't be allowed to use computers or cars.
