My oldest brother was killed by a repeat offender drunk driver going the wrong way on the interstate at 6PM on a Tuesday when I was 19 years old, I’m 61 now and I remember it like it was yesterday. His two girls grew up without their Dad that they loved dearly. I don’t have any tolerance for any sob story from a drunk, there is NO excuse!

Sorry for your brother loss I have zero tolerance for the drunk driving as well. My brother was hit by a drunk driver when he was small one of the buttons got stock to the tire and the drunk driver keep on driving she thought she hit a dog. My brother stayed in coma for 2 months and got paralyzed he had to learn everything again how to talk walk speak eat everything. He got brain damage due to the crash. His fine now but he still can't walk right and he forgets things due to the Brain damage

doubt that will hold up in decades to come, as population even in the low birth rate U.S. only CONTINUES to increase. Driver-less cars will largely ELIMINATE many DUI's, and possibly even eventually result in the penalties being drastically LOWERED in that Era, and it is probably coming, granted funding is found for it. Resource crisis alone demands it. But.....DUI's will largely be a thing of the past outside of employment, machinery in the future, but not so much on the roadways. AND legalization of marijuana, instead of dramatically increasing DUI numbers, might ACTUALLY bring them DOWN, as people take a liking over time to cannabis as opposed to poisonous, BURDENSOME alcohol (hangover, fatigue the next day, everything else). And use weed to try and stay away from alcohol abuse and harder drugs they may be addicted to. Time will show.

@@yngve6640 Each state has its own laws on this sort of thing (and I would have thought the same for different European countries), and I don't know the specifics for Arkansas. In this case, it isn't that she drank (or claimed to drink) alcohol after the crash, it's that this is actually a plausible story. In all of the US, the prosecutor must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the accused actually committed the crime. She was kind enough to admit to drinking before driving but they still might have to prove she was impaired while driving. The point is that if Arkansas has a statute covering this specific scenario (and it's possible they do), they can charge her under that. Otherwise they may have a bit of an uphill battle here.

I knew someone who was in a hit and run just like this drunk. Went home, called his lawyer and then drank 2 or 3 drinks of hard liquor and was drunk when the police came. It did not work for him either. This old drunk cared only that she got caught not who or how badly she hurt some one. Anyways, I knew I was fucked and didn't lie and completely complied with all their orders and questions and was arrested and driven to the jail while they impounded and searched my truck and found weed and a pipe. Then they booked me and all that jazz and the whole time we just chatted and talked about how I could make the better of the situation. They let me call my brother and he came and picked me up and we left. I never saw the inside of a cell. No bars. Nothing. Got the breathalyzer in my truck. Got SR22 but monthly payment barely changed. Got put on probation. Got ordered to do a DUI class. Case was deferred and no charges for the weed and pipe, it was never even mentioned in the report. I am NOT defending my actions, but I think I was a lucky case and spent less than $5,000 when it was all said and over, lawyer included. I even had a few MIPs on record but nothing else. But I'll be damned if I ever drink and drive again.

@@MrTruckerf and that's just the monetary part...then there's the time you spend in court...meeting with lawyers...and in this case it may be a felony...it's so easy to go out on the town to have a good time only to wake up with a hangover and serious criminal charges....

no reason to escalate it, she is still getting the charges, they are there to arrest her, charge, and if called for, book her. not to punish her... that's the courts job. they were being professional, if she was arguing and carrying on or resisting, I have not doubt the troopers would've acted accordingly

I didn't get to see the interaction, but I was rearended by someone who got rearended by another. Turns out it was a teen who stole her parents van (under 16), and ran off and parked it back in the garage. I got the plates and they tracked it down. Parents had NO IDEA what had happened until the police came knocking. That was 5 years ago? I think she's still grounded...
