Brussels is not just the capital of the European Union -- it's also a center for crime. Officials and members of parliament alike have been robbed and beaten in the middle of the city's European quarter. Criminals know that many people here carry a laptop,a pricey cell-phone and a full wallet. Often,the lawbreakers hail from the city's immigrant neighborhoods,home to 40 percent of the population in Brussels. One out of every two young people here is unemployed. The police here are poorly equipped and poorly paid -- and feel they're fighting a losing battle.

Unemployment is the cause of most crimes around the world. Better jobs and strong economy = less headache and fewer problems.

In three years, they changed alot, the police had enormous changes. The police force has almost doubled it's street patrols, and they made brussels one of the safest cities in Europe.

Brussels is underfunded, both by the federal government and the European Union. Investments are only done adequately there were the seats of "very important" organisations are located. The reality out here, is that there are two completely distinct Brusselses in one region.

Here in Spain we have a gang which mainly consist in both politicians and billionaries to the highest levels of Spanish society whom we don't know their identities. They supposedly were involved in such disturbing unsolved murders, as for instance "Alcasser teenage girls case", just a multiple crime which happened back on November 1992 in Valencia province at eastern Spain. I recommend everyone to read about it on the internet, as there are some forums in both Spanish and English language that deal with it. We are still seeking for the truth.

Spain compared to Belgium, uh! And you chose the Alcaser case. You have no clue about Marc Dutroux case, the girls kidnapped, raped, taped and left in a hole. All the net that case discovered but was so shocking that the trial took a decade. You ignore the Nivelles gang, the paramilitary, the mobs inside the police; the end of the "Gendarmerie"; the massive use of AK47 by an average bank robbery. You ignore the situation of the Belgian state: parallized because the linguistic and ethnic conflict and rift between Wallonie and Flanders. You have idea of the ruined south. Have a look at Charleroi or Namur´s pics with their old deserted rusty factories. (it's a photography trend on internet). Choose a short report of one of the many Belgian sociologist. You are so enclosed in your little world that can´t have a look outside it. Which is your case, lack of education, or just bitter slander?. Maybe both.

A possible solution would be to elect a good mayor and get rid of the rampant corruption... ? When you know the mayor earns an all-including salary of about 60,000 € a month, one could expect some results. Especially in a country with one of the highest taxes in the world...

Us, Bruxellois, will never allow our city and region to be part of Flanders! Are you out of your mind? I'm not saying we love Wallonia, but at least we speak the same language and have the same cultural references! We know nothing about Flanders, it's people and it's culture. Heck, I'm an " echte zinneke", I speak Flemish, but when I drive a couple of km and find myself in Flanders I feel like being in another country! And don't start the "Brussels is a bilingual city" thing, because you know that in the facts more than 90% is French speaking. I'm not saying that to disrespect the Flemish folks, but we are two different people. And even if Flanders made the very smart move to pick Brussels as it's capital, they will never have it... Facts.
