Syria is an oil country?? member in OPEC? No, in 2010 it produced only 300k barrels per day which is nothing compared to the millions of Barrels produced daily by Iraq, Saudi, Russia and other true oil producers. half of that oil was used for local consumption sold with subsidized prices, the other half was exported to finance international imports in US $ that was 13 bn annually. Noting that health and education were free of charge, bread , cooking oil, rice, and sugar were sold with subsidized prices. Tens of thousands of housing units were built and sold with below cost prices financed by government public banks with over 25 years loans. Syria never had foreign debts. That was history now Assad has to be demonized of course,
@serebii666Күн бұрын
"That was history now Assad has to be demonized of course," probably has something to do with all the prisons he established to torture and unalive those tens of thousands of dissenters, disappear them so their families never knew what happened to them, and then when called to democratically reform, he instead turned his weapons on his own citizens, unaliving 500k, and causing 8 million to flee, whose property he then unilaterally confiscated in a series of rubberstamped laws from 2018. That is the history of Assad and his regime.
@Tom-fo5ce22 сағат бұрын
The way you tell it, Assad's Syria sounds like a nice place to be. If he would have just let up on the nagging issues like mass murder, torture, bombing of hospitals, chemical weapons use, being the world's biggest meth dealer, etc. I anyone would be lucky to live there.
@proselytizingorthodoxpente830422 сағат бұрын
Syria had substantial foreign debts under Assad. Before the war it was borrowing from Germany, France, and Russia. During the war it was borrowing significantly from Russia and Iran.

Saying this while US is stationed in Syria's oil rich region is insane
@HellBot-gi5siКүн бұрын
That is what caused to Assad's regime to fall. By preventing him from getting that oil revenue it imploded his country. Even now Iran and Russia realized they bit off more than they could chew. You see what you don't know these countries are extremely poor and worse they run really badly by corrupt politicians and clerics. They could not financially support Assad that why he turn to being a drug kingpin but even that could not help him it wasn't enough to support an entire country.

Nice talking point, but the Kurds can do with their oil as they please. Not theft, simple ownership.
@Hathur22 сағат бұрын
WTF are you talking about? Syria hasn't exported or sold a DROP of oil outside syria since 2011. Any and all oil is used inside Syria. That will likely change now that Assad is gone. The US doesn't care about Syria is an oil producer, they are so miniscule it isn't worth their effort the sheer military cost to secure such a small oil reserve.

There will be no real construction until the Kurds are removed or give the land back and stay so Syria can use the oil within its country. The kurds religion and faith has been guaranteed so if they want to stay should be given the chance but the land belongs to Syria as does the oil. The guest speaker is extremely knowledgeable.
