DIY Temporary Electrical Service Installation
I will be installing the wire and the temp power pole to provide
power to the construction site during the build of a single-family house. We are going to be pulling wire threw a conduit that was installed threw and easement. I will also be installing the caution tape in the trench before I back fill. We will get the temp power pole installed in its location and make sure that it is ready for L@I inspection.
Underground power started more than 50 years ago to replace overhead distribution systems. Underground service installations by the power industry is complex. However, it can be done and has a lot of great benefits. Lack of interest on the part of the power company should not deter you from taking advantage of the benefits of buried distribution systems.
When the estimated cost of buried services exceeds the estimated cost of aerial services by more than ten per cent, you should negotiate with the power district or developer on the following basis:
No charge where the developer, builder or, or you dig and back fills trenches for the distribution cable and all service wires.
where you digs and back fill all trenches, the developer or builder will pay that cost which exceeds the estimated cost of aerial plant by more than ten percent.
I recommend that underground power systems be used exclusively. There are certain instances where it is not feasible however theses are very rare.

Thanks for taking the time for all the explanations, nice video. The only thing I would have suggested to make this job easier, would have been to use a roto-hammer w/attachment for grounding rods. Makes it soo easy.

Put ribbon in trench, then take it out again so you can backfill it correctly. Gotta love those Jobsworth Inspectors...

Nice work. I'm an electrician and most homeowners would not tackle a project of this magnitude. Only observations are that it's actually URD wire not triplex. Triplex is for overhead wiring and the sizes of the conductors are 4/0-4/0-2/0.

Backfilled after PSE inspection? PSE Handbook: "PSE shall assign a Project Manager to oversee the trench location, equipment placement/installation, and backfilling. • Work shall be subject to the inspection and satisfaction of PSE. • No work shall be backfilled, covered, or concealed until it has been inspected and approved by the inspector."

I believe you stated the conductor sizes incorrectly. You said, 2 o, 2 o, 4 o. Pronounced Oh. I think you meant to say 4/0, 4/0, 2,0. Pronounced Aut, like the first part of Autumn. Sorry you hit the waterline but good job!

thanks Dan for going to this great trouble to show or rather share your knowledge on this particular aspect of building a house. Even though I live in Australia the basics are the same. Very valuable info for when I do this myself soon. Thanks again for you dedication to share your knowledge.

Put the ribbon in, take the ribbon out, put the ribbon back in. That sounds like a typical government operation. Seems like having a sufficient length on hand would suffice for the inspection.

Inspector might not like it because you could save it for other job sites if it’s on your hand.
@Dan-oz4qb
@Dan-oz4qb 5 жыл бұрын
@@erictold of course you could do that. You could also pull it back out as soon as the inspector leaves. Dishonest people will always find a way.

For real. I have realized before I do any work I contact the local government to find out the rules and who does what. Nice work.

Glad to see you did the service conductor installation in the proper order. First you run the conduit, then you install the pull wire by either blowing or vacuuming in and then you pull in the conductors. Another very good u tuber showed an improper installation of laying the conductors in the trench and then sliding the conduit over then wires. I wish somebody showed him the correct method. Good job here.

Anybody familiar with Florida Laws on Temporary Power poles? I have a vacant residential lot on in central Florida on a very narrow and soft road few cars would dare drive through. No houses in 1000' square feet. However, 200' away there is a power pole. I am yet to have a survey done, have been able to drive to the middle of the lot where I've camp. I'm looking for the cheapest way to get Duke Power to run me a temporary 100amp power connection. I called they said the county would need to inspect and I would need a building permit. I've heard you can get a permit for just a well pump. How about if I want to manually clear myself using electric? Also, soon I will be driving electric and need power to charge my truck.

Rob Lambert you absolutely need that. When it’s it’s used the aluminum expands and contracts which can lead to it arcing and a fire

There is no main disconnect in that meter base so the neutral termination supplies your bond to that meter cabinet. No need for another wire to bind the meter cabinet. This is Since I’m assuming your grounding electrode conductor is terminated in the main breaker panel with the neutral. And we are to Bond the neutrals and grounds at the first means of disconnect. Right ??

My first video on this subject and the first one to come up on KZbin. As I'm watching, I'm thinking "well, this will be a good intro but I will have to go to my county to get the details" And guess what? I live in Kitsap County Washington. Ka-ching. Too make it even better, my daughter lives about a mile from this jobsite! Thanks for the good video, and LOL, I will be using a BX-25 as well!

I don’t understand the coil of wire buried below the temporary service. Why not just be able to go right into the temp service ? Is the extra coil for future potentially?
@DanielWoodell
@DanielWoodell 5 жыл бұрын
Casey Espeseth The extra wire used to spool out to connect to the house once the house is built the temperate power pole is only there so that we can build the house.
