Love your work on Antennas.👍 I keep looking for the insects antennae … My OCD is resonating 😂 The plural noun form of “antenna” comes in two flavors: “antennas” and “antennae.” If you look up antenna in an English dictionary, you'll see that the plural, antennas, is used to refer to electrical instruments, and antennae, to the protuberances found on the heads of insects.

Nice job & TNX for all other ideas (in metric) and videos!!! And yes,simplicity is still the best. Great example is that DX Commander vertical from Callum. Light,mobile,low cost,portable...Best wishes & take care!

Nice job good to see others using such a versatile antenna. I can’t understand why people can’t see the benefits and spend a small amount of cash for such rewards. 👍🇬🇧👍🇬🇧👍

i use the hustler 5btv. and they recommend you start to tune the antenna at the 10 metre trap first and go that way it s the only way i would go

Those wing nut/ring connectors at the base need some reworking. The wire and/or connectors will soon fatigue with a 90-degree bend like that. Maybe folding up the corners of the plate would be the easiest solution, or adding 90-degree connectors of some sort. A steady SWR of 2:1, regardless of frequency, indicates interaction and not a very good outcome!
@mike-M0MSN4 жыл бұрын
I have not had much of an issue with the connectors on any of the DXC bases over the passed 2 years but I except your point, as with the interaction, yes I think you are spot on with that one, thanks for your observations..

It would be nice to see what the swr was at both the bottom and the top of each band.
@mike-M0MSN4 жыл бұрын
dheller777 yes sorry, the SWR remains within ..2 of the centre so the highest SWR is still below 1:1.5
@dheller7774 жыл бұрын
@@mike-M0MSN Thanks. I have the DX Commander all band vertical but my swr is much higher than yours on all bands.
@mike-M0MSN4 жыл бұрын
@@dheller777 Hi , Ground radials increase the number and length of some of these if you have room, I have found that the best SWR results are gained then you have one or two half the length of the longest element.
@dheller7774 жыл бұрын
@@mike-M0MSN I have about 40 radials about 3.5 meters long. Half of them are buried and the other half laying on the ground as I really don't have the room to bury them.
@mike-M0MSN4 жыл бұрын
@@dheller777 Hi, you have about the same number as I have, some of mine are 5mtrs long (around 10).. Not sure why yours is not SWR'ing as low there are many factors. Buildings, soil, other antenna, metal posts, fencing etc. I wish you luck..
@knikk774 жыл бұрын
If you have 40 meters it is also resonant on 15m. I have a 80/40/20/10m fan dipole, I don't have a problem with the 10m band. But maybe this is different on a vertical antenna?
@mike-M0MSN4 жыл бұрын
normally 17 & 10m is not an issue but for some reason, maybe due to the linear loading of the 40m, it is not working (as well as it should) yet.

Hi Mike, what’s the pole you’ve used in the ground as I’m planning similar so I can bury everything except the feed to stop the dog having something to chew on. Plus could you tell me the width and length you’ve got above ground. Cheers Mike. Paul M6PNW

@@mike-M0MSN Thought so. That accounts for the slight difference in the lengths compared to D10.... :)

RolyRJ yes the velocity factor is closer to 90% where the dx10 is around 94% I think.

Mike, i have scoured various forums for an answer to a query i have. Has anyone added a 11mtr element to a DX commander or would it cause problems to the other bands🤔. Could be a project for the next lockdown

@@mike-M0MSN I am off to Niue Island (E6AR) as soon as we get the 'all clear' to travel. Then, I have to get back to Papua New Guinea (P29RR), Cook Islands (E51RR) and Tonga (A35RR) to do a truck load of repairs and maintenance asap. Hence the development of the DX-Commander Expedition model. I use two of them now days phased for 40mtrs, works gang busters for sure. Cheers - ZL1BQD

Hi Mike, I’m struggling a lot to make a 40m element to work like this... I’ve made exactly the same like you in this video and it still doesn’t work at all. I’ve tried different lengths before, also with no success. I’ve even made a top spacer as you suggested in other video with Cal and Roly. I’m using 7m pole, 30 radials, 5m long. What could be my mistake? Please help. Thank you.

Hi yes I had the same issue, you need one extra ground radial of 10 to 20m in length to balance the 40m. Try it and let me know...👍
