I hear the US version has breakage issues because they took out all the metal.

Not all of the metal, just most of it, inside Aqua Rescue 2 there are some die cast parts particularly in the transformation hip joints. The Japanese version doesn't break as often in Pyro Rescue 1/ Red Ladder. But yes, The breakage issues are actually in the Japanese Chogoken but are less common to that version, then the American version. GD-18 remained mostly unaltered. (I think it might have went through toy safety changes just to get it in American stores.)

Only acception is the Zeo megazord/ Ohranger robo has a sci-fi/fantasy method when it combines, Lightspeed Megazord/ Victory Robo is going for a more grounded approach for its combination despite being a super robot thingy.
