I just love Peter’s videos… So often illustrating that QRP can be way more satisfying than 1.5 KW… and while antennas need to be good… they don’t have to be perfect.

Oh 1.5kW is for the lazy!! It's always interesting how far you can get on such little (QRP) power ;-)
@johnnorth9355Ай бұрын
That means so much more to me than all the high power stations put together. QRP rules.
@JocMe-c9hАй бұрын
What are the QRP rules?

Well done Peter you are an inspiration to all

Absolutely!! A ton of info and help and inspiration. He is a genius. Just wish I could get off Standard Call to use 12m also. Thanks VK3YE.

That Hungarian station should really have slowed to your speed. I appreciate your CW is probably good enough to read him, but he shouldn't make that assumption. Excellent video! Matt M0PTO

It is often said that loop antennas work better closer to the ground. Amazing results for QRP, though.

I’ve been taking out a larger loop to do 20m and 40m. I worked out that there is little point in raising it up much above the 1.5m to the bottom of the loop though I can get it up another metre higher on the lighting stand I’ve been using Mag loops are a surprising

Where loops are concerned, height is not might. Low is the go.

There is also a fine line between a magnetic loop and an Aldus Lamp.

I've had some success with magloop antennas (where it was difficult to mount a bigger antenna), I am not surprised therefore that many similar designs using loops also work. There are several caveats, however - tuning such an antenna needs to be quite precise. As for a straight CW key, I made one using... cheap tweezers. Very light and works OK (not great, just OK).

Peter, That is an awesome video. I love that morse key, it looks like something that was found in the tomb of King Tut! I wonder if this setup would work away from the beach?

A real working radio and not something only to be used in the shack and thinking of it's re-sale value. Mag. loops great for their size. I got an FT817ND for portable use. I couldn't do with my key bouncing around like that. I usually operate sitting on a chair with the key on my knee with the other hand holding it steady. 17m and 10m open and o.k. results here with attic dipoles and 1 Watt c.w., 1500 miles so far. I've yet to get out with my 817 and having a motorbike or bus with my rucksack have to consider what aerial I can carry. I have a 6m Sotabeam Tactical Mini telescopic mast so maybe a vertical or doublet or a mag. loop made with coax so I can roll it up and plug the ends into the tuner box and perhaps position it half way up the mast. G4GHB.

You must be on a very high altitude beach, to compensate for the short aerial mast ;-)

Where is the previous video of this antenna? Can't find in your history.

Awesome 👍. Which app are you using on your phone ?
@alanjhargreavesАй бұрын
It frustrates me as someone who is not good with speed, when a sender does not slow down to the speed you are sending.
