On my Futaba 9 I started using a LiPo 3S as well. But because there is no way to alter the alarm I ended up using a diode to limit the voltage that enter the radio and still have it warn me way before the low voltage damage the lipo. For the DX7 I'd recommend the same, if you can get a ~1 - 1.5v voltage drop it will more than enough to make it safe and we can still enjoy the wonders of a long lasting LiPo.

Thanks for the video on setting the alarm voltage. If you're using a lipo, the end cap from a red Bic pen fits perfectly in the wall charging port as a safety measure to prevent (or at least deter) someone from connecting the wall wart.

Hi I was wondering if I can use a regular 3s 2200 mah lipo pack in my Spektrum DX7 providing I solder the proper lead onto the lipo pack ? Also wanted to know if there is a setting for using a lipo battery pack that I have to select when I change over to a lipo ? Thanks and great video lots of useful tips

On the lower part of the screen show +8. What this means? In my TX show +2. And I use 3s LiFEPo4 battery. Do I need to change that number? Anyone can explain? Thanks

Just move the spring and friction strip. Then change the mode selection in the settings

Thanks works perfect, to everyone I have DX7 i bought the Turnigy 2650mAh 3S 1C LLF Tx Pack (Futaba/JR from Germany Hobby king and fit straight in well worth it. The battery about £7 and postage ontop worth buying some lipos or somethiing ontop and Im in UK it took 4 working days to arrive from HK Germany. very happy thanks GreenMountainRC and Hobby King (Europe) too

Great, thanks for the share. HK now has 3S 1c Turnigy 2650's for this use, under $10. To idiot-proof so you don't accidentally plug in the NiMH charger, just use a little hot glue in the charge port of the transmitter, you can get it out later on - but once you go lipo why would you go back to nmh, anyway. Unless you sell it later with original battery, maybe.

What's the benefit of the 3c lipo vs. the stock battery?

Why don't you simply exchange the NiMh pack with a 2700mAh one? It could be self a self made pack. That wouldn't void the warranty, charging could be done through the standard port, no safety issues as with Lipos, and you could use the original pack as a backup.

Excellent... and no, you don't have to replace the voltage regulator because the lipo is a slow discharge transmitter pack, not a flight battery.

To all who commented on this video, I have read that a voltage regulator upgrade should also be made to the DX7 because after use the stock voltage regulator will over heat and burn out. Has anyone had this happen to them?

What about Spektrum's manual statement, that 12.6V could be too much and 9.6V is the design voltage? Anyone had any problems using a 3s LiPo?

Question for you guys, would this modification also work with the TacTac - AnyLink module, since the module also plug's into the charging port of the DX7? Has anyone tried this or uses a modified DX7 with an installed LiPo battery and with the AnyLink plugged in and working?!

don't worry about what c rating the battery is. the battery only discharges what is being needed by the transmitter which is 330mah. the specs on the voltage regulator say up to 12v so I put in 1 1amp diode which brings a 3s pack to 12volts from 12.6 because I wanted to be as safe as possible

Hello xrguy650, I still have my old DX7. And now that I'm going to have time to fly again, I would like to put a lipo in my Tx. Like you, I'm convicted it's safer to protect it from high voltage. What should I add ? Would a resistor be suitable ? but what value (ohms.. W..) ? Or is it absolutely necessary to use a diode ?

@@Redscreen-qk5pf Dear, I am an electronic engineer and the most sensible thing in this case is that two diodes are placed to knock 1.4 volts at the lipo of 12.6. With this we guarantee the input voltage of 11.2 volts and we will not have problems of overheating of the regulator. The diodes can be placed in series before the battery outlet port or placed one at each end of the battery but in different positions

@@Redscreen-qk5pf just replace the voltage switching regulator inside your TX with a lot more efficient one that will make the battery last a lot longer and please note the old switching regulator cannot handle the higher voltage of the lipo battery so will burn out search the RC forums for more information if needed all the best Ian 😷

Okay so I tried it and it work's just fine. The AnyLink handles the 12.5vdc LiPo battery from inside the DX7 just fine. Question solved.
