There's so much potential for alternate gaming history. What if Kojima didn't become a game director? What if John Carmack didn't make the ID Tech engines open source? What if RE 7 failed? What if devs didn't follow the Ubisoft formula? What if Konami kept making games? What if Duke Nukem Forever's 2001 build was completed and released?

The idea of Silent Hill being cancelled is already melancholic enough, but it somehow only dawned on me how catastrophic a loss it would be when concept art for SH2 popped up. We wouldn't have just lost a survival horror classic that completely transformed the genre, but we would have lost one of the greatest games of all time, and for me personally, my favorite game in existence. Really puts into perspective how much incredible art we must have lost already due to factors like corporate disinterest.

Crazy thing is, that later this year, or maybe next year, rumor has it, a sequel to this never released survival horror game, whatever that is, will be released. I really look forward to whatever may come. After the desaster that RE2 was and after 30 years I think it might be a good idea to revive this "survival horror". I wonder how they write a story to a game that never came to light. Maybe the story of Silent Hill 2 has nothing to do with this cancelled first part? And maybe a 3rd part will? Wouldn't it be crazy to make a game with the number 2 in it, a sequel to a game that no one ever saw and the story would be continued in the 3rd part? Oh Konami.... It's either clever as hell, or stupid AF.

The Silent Hill described in this video would have been fairly different than the one that exists for us, it plays off of scrapped concepts and ideas implemented into other games like Silent Hill Play Novel.

Well, I think my video hyperbolizes, of course, but I generally don't think RE1.5 would have been nearly as successful as the RE2 we got. When I played the restored 40% build of 1.5, I was very bored. I believe even Shinji Mikami called the game dull and boring, and they scrapped it at 80% completion for a reason. Again, I don't think it would have been quite the disaster that this video makes it out to be, but Resident Evil is historically a market leader and I'm not sure the survival horror genre would have flourished the way that it did if 1.5 is the game we'd have gotten.
