Good contribution, which shows that there is still much room for improvement.

Yes they need AI masking to move the needle!

You have some of the most thorough DXO tutorials. Thanks!

I've gone back and re-edited a couple of night sky photos I originally did in v5 or 6. This mask is the perfect tool for masking the light coming over the horizon, dropping that luminance a bit without touching other sky colors...
@takebetterphotos8132Ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your usecase. I guess hue mask is faster than control point for that purpose.

I bought the upgrade - but more for the new curves tool than for anything else. Yes, de-noise is better, but I use a D750 and fast glass - and ETTR. If I had a MFT and continued to shoot in low light, I'd have different priorities. This new tool is a 'nice extra', but that's pretty much it. Super well explained in the video, BTW.

Your the first to feedback that you upgraded for curves rather than denoising! Good for DXO to add that feature then!

Yep same here. The new curves tool is pretty good.

@richardturner81 Thanks for the feedback. Didn't know customers were clamoring for this

@@takebetterphotos8132 If you go to the DxO customers' forum, there have been a lot of requests to improve the curves tool (which up to v7, really hasn't been up to the competition). There were a lot of different ideas on how to make it better, so they're scattered around.
@takebetterphotos8132Ай бұрын
@bobkoure thanks for this info. Will explore the curves tool more see in what way editing can be even better!

A good illustration of why DXO need to adopt C1's AI masking capabilities/UI, which make the examples you show trivial masking tasks.
@takebetterphotos81322 ай бұрын
We can only hope they're working on it. Its getting embarassing even ACDSee has AI masking.

Good work . . . Now I better understand Hue Mask and when to use it!! However, it and the other "new additions" do not justify $109 upgrade charge from 7->8:-(
@takebetterphotos8132Ай бұрын
I don't think so too. Depends how you value $109😊

DxO PL is not bad at all, but there are many disadvantages in masking comparing to LR or C1 (or ON1 but I don't like they colors for my Canon cameras, especially by higISO )
@takebetterphotos81322 ай бұрын
Yes masking is something that customers have wanted improved for quite a while. Too bad they haven't acted on it. Are you saying you don't like ON1 colors for your Canon or DXO?

I send you a mail
@takebetterphotos81322 ай бұрын
Hello @robertrakowicz9666 I'm looking at the files with on1. The colors are neutral. Is that the main issue? That's how ON1 processes its RAW in general.

Thanks for this. Good to see different customers concerns. While I don't take wildlife I'll take a second look on the landscape photos renderings

Does it also work for Fujifilm raw (RAF) files?
@takebetterphotos81322 ай бұрын
According to the website it supports
@bobkoureАй бұрын
@@remco2777 I've seen comments that the new noise reduction improvement doesn't work for Fuji raw images (makes sense as demosaicing those is very different) but not a single one about this tool not working for Fuji.

@@bobkoure Thank you Bob. I find DxO's website very confusing to find what PL8 supports. The website suggests that my X-T4 and my lenses are only supported in PL5.
@takebetterphotos8132Ай бұрын
@bobkoure Thanks for the feedback. DXO should make it explicit then. Too bad I don't have Fuji to test out.
