dxRevive Pro: Is It Better Now?

Thanks for this video series! The new algos have convinced me to finally give the trial a go. Since you seem to have lots of experience in this space: do you have any recommendations for a tool that can "upsample" a cell phone podcast interview?

I feel the new algos are a big improvement over what dxRevive shipped with. As far as improving a cell phone interview, I don't have any direct experience with that. I've tried out RX's Spectral Repair, which claims to do this, but it creates other issues, mainly with sibilance. dxRevive has some spectral repair functionality, so it's worth trying. Having said that, I wouldn't worry about a cell phone interview. It is what is, and no matter what we do, it's still going to be a cell phone quality recording. The tools aren't good enough to recreate all those missing frequencies...yet. There may come a day when this is no longer true, but Izotope has been working on it for years and is no closer than when they started.

@ehleroo It's definitely improved since its release. Most of the other one-knob style plugins release and then move on...Waves comes to mind. Accentize continues to give us more options and algorithms to choose from.

Благодарю за обзор! использую и GOYO и dxRevive Pro, может позже (сейчас сильно загружен работой) опишу как использую dxRevive Pro, но хочу сказать! так как реставрирую старые записи то во многих местах при недостатке гармоник утрачивается яркость голоса я выделяю зону слабых гармоник и применяю в GOYO регулятор Voice от 3 до 12 dB .....................НИ ОДИН ПЛАГИН, НИКАКИЕ САТУРАТОРЫ ТАК НЕ ВОЗРОЖДАЮТ ОТСУТСТВУЮЩИЕ ГАРМОНИКИ КАК GOYO!!!!!!!!!!!!! Очень натурально !!! понятно что во всём нужно знать меру....и никакого всплеска окружающей атмосферы не происходит даже при экстремальных dB усиления !Так как у меня записи старые то проблема частая, нужно ли это в современных Голосах!!!? такие же усиления голоса есть в Изотоп Диалог Изолятор, Деконстракт, и т.д. НО они почти не оживляют верхнюю середину-только низ и середину! а GOYO (в твоём случае supertone clear) бесподобен в этом смысле, и если замято или проглочено окончание слова можно его возродить прибавив к Voice немного или много Voice Reverb

This is why I have different options for clean up duties. The thing that Goyo/Clear does that most of the others don't is it gives us individual controls over the voice, noise, and reverb. RX's new Dialog Isolate does this as well, but that's an expensive mess right now. In situations like yours, I can see why that would be beneficial. I do find the EQ in dxRevive to be a bit too much in the algorithms that use it, and it does roll off high end. That's probably to help with the reverb reduction.

Very informative review! Quite surprised to hear that dxRevive Pro has replaced Supertone Clear in your tool kit. What specific components of dxRevive Pro are you using for noise reduction instead of Supertone? If time permits, it would be quite helpful to hear a side by side comparison of Supertone vs Revive Pro. Also, any idea what they don’t release a stripped down package that only includes the latest iterations of Studio and Normal. $200 is a lot of money to get both. And what’s the use case for having both Studio and Normal?

dxRevive Pro and Supertone Clear were included in my big noise reduction shootout video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGHOnKqvj66Yr5Y dxRevive hasn't replaced Clear. It's just the noise reduction plugin that I default to. If it doesn't work well, I'll try out the others depending on what dxRevive was struggling with. I'm not sure if that makes sense. Each piece of audio is different and I choose the tool that gets the job done. I don't get into A-B testing, I just listen to the audio and decide if this is good enough or if I need to try something else. Accentize has the standard version of dxRevive, though it only has the Studio algorithms. They made the decision to only provide the updated algos to Pro users. Probably to help offset the cost of development. The use case for Studio and Normal is to have options. Sometimes one will work better than the other on the given piece of audio. Personally, Normal is chosen as my default because I don't want it adding EQ to my audio. If I have something kind of trashy sounding, I might just slap Studio in and move on.
