Thank you Rebecca!!! This video helped me get the exact self-striping yarn I wanted. I took a deep breath and made SIX different-colored stripes. I posted photos of the steps and final product on the ChemKnits FB group. So happy!

Halfway through the video I had to go ball up the skein which I then divided into two balls. Did a test knit- 64 stitches on 2.25 mm needles. With my gauge I got 2-1/2 to 3 rounds of each color. @Chemknits Tutorial I posted a photo in the FB group for anyone interested in seeing how it looks. I ended up re-balling the yarn so the stripes will go light to dark as I didn't feel like doing toe-up socks. Rebecca, thank you for re-skeining the yarn!

I think a chalk talk would be a good idea because it would then be a reference that could clear up any misunderstandings we may have. I love the colors you chose and would love to see you do stripes for sock knitting 🥰

When I’m dyeing stripes, I use hairclips (the bendy ones which flex open and closed) to measure and mark the sections. They are quick and easy to get on and off. 🙂

Assistance with the math would be very helpful. Same with calculating yardage/ dye for self-striping socks.

Since I don't really knit socks I don't have a lot of that information for myself, but I could work through the theoretical calculations. :D

When you lay out the skein to dye 4 sections instead of 3, one of the sections could be speckled.

I didn't mean to pressure you into knitting some swatches. You are right. You are just one person putting out several videos. One person can only do so much. I would do some calculations on the chalk board. A lot of people might need help with the math. I understand your math already, but the calculations are worthy of laying out on a chalk board like an Instructor.
@ChemKnitsTutorials3 жыл бұрын
Oh please don't worry! I get this request multiple times a week from many people.

@@ChemKnitsTutorials Also, your stripes are beautiful. I started dyeing because of you. I am so thankful for you. I was just a knitter. You have helped change the course of my life in a wondering yarn-dyeing direction. I'll explain more in a couple of weeks. p.s. I only agreed with the chalk board writing because a lot of people are being inspired by your work. You are an Instructor.

Rebecca this is a gorgeous outcome....really stunning! Question..if you use the Mason jars to achieve this color way could you set it in the microwave?
@ChemKnitsTutorials2 жыл бұрын
I think that you could. I don't use commercial dyes in my kitchen microwave and I don't have a dedicated dye microwave so this is why I tend to use the insert in a pot.

Hi the Rebecca! WAS THIS WHAT YOU MEANT WHEN YOU SAID THERE’D BE MORE MATH OF DYEING VIDEOS??? coz I am HERE FOR IT. 😬 I absolutely love the idea of a chalk talk video though, wondering if I could drop in and be there for any of that? I’m thinking of doing a survey of all my acid dyes and I think between the two of us we might have a big enough data set 🤣
@ChemKnitsTutorials3 жыл бұрын
I think I filmed this one and the blue & yellow color mixing videos in the same week. I had all kinds of calculations written up. :D Oh man, I need to organize my acid dyes so badly. I'm overwhelmed with choices sometimes!

And I think I'll try to set up a chalk talk sometime soon. I need to get a way for people to submit questions and things like that.

When you check with a spoon to see how much dye is left, why don't you use a white spoon⁉️🤔 💜💙💚💛🧡❤
@ChemKnitsTutorials3 жыл бұрын
Great question! My white spoons are all plastic and would melt in a warm dyebath. I use the metal spoon because I can get a bit of a picture even if it isn't perfect.
