It looks like the turquoise part is supposed to drop into the locked position for spinning. You hold the turquoise part with one hand while spinning the handle with the other. The globe spins within the turquoise holder. Maybe that will get a faster spin?
@ChemKnitsTutorials4 жыл бұрын
I thought that, too, but the device doesn't really spin inside the turquoise thing. There is too much tension with it so it spins as a unit. 🤷♀️
@KariFellWeaves4 жыл бұрын
@@ChemKnitsTutorials Hmmm. I wonder if yours is defective. There's other videos out there showing the globe spinning.

@@KariFellWeaves it might be defective for sure. I thought it would spin in the frame and when it didn't I was surprised. It could move within the frame but it took a lot of effort.

I love it when the Chemkids make an appearance! Also a huge fan of tie dye. It's a bummer that the colors aren't very pigmented, but you should be able to use tulip tie dye, or even acid dyes, and then heat set. I look forward to seeing what this does with yarn inside!
@ChemKnitsTutorials4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I don't think I'm going to keep the rest of the dye from this kit. It pains me to purge, but I didn't like it and wouldn't want to use it. (I'm a bit of a hoarder, lol.)

This is a good idea! I think I try traditional tie dye, it is easier and then the kids wouldn't have to agree on colors. (We negotiated the color selection for a LOOOOOOOOOONG time, lol!)

I wonder if you try to use the crank after locking the orb in, if it will turn the way the box made it seem like it would?
@ChemKnitsTutorials4 жыл бұрын
I tried to turn the orb within the handle (and tried again after seeing more comments) and it really takes a lot of effort to spin. I think that if it were locked into the stand you would need another person to hold the stand down to spin it, if that makes sense. There is just too much friction in my orb.

Awesome fun for the kiddos but I think you would have a terrific spin if u lock it in n then use the handle n see if the balls turns instead of the whole thing just a thought great vid
@ChemKnitsTutorials4 жыл бұрын
There was so much friction within the handle that we would need to clamp down the base to get it to spin with it locked in. I just tried again yesterday to see if I could get it to spin withing the handle and there is too.mich friction. Mine may be defective. ☹️
@theredtower13344 жыл бұрын
I believe you need to lock the frame down, then hold the frame with one hand and spin the ball with the other. I think you'll have a more positive experience if you do. Your boys are darling.
@ChemKnitsTutorials4 жыл бұрын
The ball didn't spin within the frame though. I think there may be a defect because I expected it to spin as you described. I tried to twist within the frame but it was too tight. (I forget if I cut that or not.) I agree is that this is what makes more sense, though! Lucas and I tried this again with yarn and also couldn't really spin it. I was bummed.
@crystalpeacebear19854 жыл бұрын
I. Have seen people take the freshly dyed items out of the ball and stick them into bags for the allotted wait time Like normal tie dye when they plan to do larger number of items. But your right not messfree. But you could say it is less mess dye
@ChemKnitsTutorials4 жыл бұрын
I'm not even sure it is less mess! If I gave the kids each a container to keep their shirt in while they dyed, it might have been a bit more contained.

I wonder if you only had one shirt at a time, spinning it would have allowed the shirt to move around so you could get those white spots
@ChemKnitsTutorials4 жыл бұрын
I think the spinning would only let some of the liquid move versus the shirt, I'm not sure there is any way the shirt will really spin. When Lucas and I tried this with yarn it was stuffed so full that we didn't get much spinning, either.
