Beautiful colors! I’ve found that when dipping blanks for gradient dyeing that the curling of the fabric may cause subtle, unwanted micro-striping in random places. I resolved this issue by prepping the blanks before dyeing. I loosely baste the edges together with crochet cotton to keep them open, forming a tube. It works great!

Ooo basting the edges may help a lot! I was surprised that this one didn't look like there was a ton of variation from edge resists, but it may be there. I think it is easier to keep them open one at a time vs two, also.

What a great surprise!! I have been sick and cooped up for weeks, so the yarn brightened my day. The reds, oranges, and pink are in stark contrast to the gloomy winter weather today! Thank you!!

Orange and red and pink. Ick, I thought. And wasn't I so very VERY wrong! I can't decide which looks more beautiful: the still-knitted-up blank, the unraveled yarn on the niddy-noddy, the crinkly mini-skein, or the twisted (but still crinkly) skein. Yes, I know that they're all the same colorway. And would all make the same pair of socks. Gorgeous socks! Glorious socks! Also the pretty pastel yarn mop. Orange and red and pink; who knew?

Love the ‘reverse speckles!’ I think the little spots throughout help tie the colors together. Beautiful work. Can you imagine this in blues and purples?? 😍

I truly LOVE the reverse speckling effect. This is stunning a sunny colorway. I'm not sure I would have thought to put the red with the pink. I'd love to see (have, ha ha ha ha) a similar technique with a yellowish orange into pink into purple with the colors overlapping in the middle. I have a wall hanging I did (quilting with my Mom) in these colors and it's stunning! I also think it would be fun to be able to buy a set of skeins where there are 3 colors in each and it progresses through the rainbow across all of them. If there were seven, and each one started with a different color, then you've have a pair of socks for the whole week! Honestly, my wish list includes an old-fashioned sock knitting machine -- if I ever save enough to get me one and learn it, I'll be all over fingering weight yarns!

I used the pink and red together for Watermelon (I think it was these two colors, or something close) and loved it. Then these two colors for chanukah and it was magical that I wanted to try again. (Plus - I like to go look through Lab Partner previous comments and suggestions when planning the videos. :D )

I would probably always put a piece of scrap yarn through the end of a knit blank because I'm always paranoid about unraveling, but I can understand why you wouldn't bother if it hasn't been an issue for you before.
@ChemKnitsTutorials3 жыл бұрын
It's an issue with some blanks but others it hasn't been so bad. I'd try to remember to do a safety line in the future. (I think that dip dyeing is more likely to cause unraveleing.)

Would it affect the dyeing process if you were to add a stitch marker to keep it from unraveling? Never mind!! You answered right after I asked!!! Lol

I think I'd do a safety line over a stitch marker, but that would help for sure.

Dear Rebecca, how do you get the kink out of sock blanks? I’ve dyed single stand sock blanks that have very tiny stitches and I have trouble getting the kink out of them after unraveling. I’ve soaked them in water and stretched them with nylon zip ties but there are still curls in the hanks. Do you have any advice? Thank you!
@ChemKnitsTutorials3 жыл бұрын
Often I will soak to relax the crimp, but there is still a bit of wave to it. This should resolve once you knit with it, but you could try to "block" the yarn a bit with it stretched. Or hang while the yarn is super saturated can help sometimes, too.

I love mine….it was ugly when dyed and lovely knitted up.
