This episode could not have come at a better time. I was dying up some roving for the first time and a bit unsure of what I was doing. I love your videos so much and have learned a ton. Thankyou for all that you do ❤

I love this. I don't know why I thought all the colors would blend, but you always seem to surprise me with your color choices. Please do more experiments with roving! I'm a spinner and I want to start dyeing my own roving to spin! Just beautiful!

Thank you so much! I knew that the colors would break because of some of the ones I picked. A lot of those neon pink pigments take so long to bind to fiber that I had a feeling they would go all the way through. I'm glad it worked! I hope to do more roving videos in the future.

"Some healthy squirts", I love that as a qualitative measurement. I did some experiments with dry merino top this summer. I floated the fibre on top of shallow pans of cold dye and left them overnight. Submerging the fibre completely the following morning and then transferring the pans to my greenhouse to warm up for a couple of days. I really like the slow process for a dye stuff that breaks, it makes for really intense variation in hues.

I definitely want to see more roving :) planning to start spinning one of these days because I need ANOTHER hobby... that could lead to more hobbies...

Drop spindles don't cost very much at all! It is a low cost and low space requirement hobby (at least at first, lol!)

I can't believe that there wasn't more color bleeding considering there's purple pop in there! This color is absolutely gorgeous. It's very tie-dye feeling.

This turned out absolutely gorgeous.😮 I definitely plan on trying this. Also roving is where I love to wash with leave in soaps like Eucalan or Soak. Yes, yes, yes, more roving. I’m interested to see this done with Sage Leaf.

Have you considered making a “sock blank” with roving? Arm knit roving, then dye it? I think that sounds like a fun experiment! I don’t know if you’ve already done this, but I haven’t seen it if you have 😊
@ChemKnitsTutorials
@ChemKnitsTutorials Жыл бұрын
I haven't done this, but I have dyed the crochet chain of roving. I think that I would need so much fiber to do something that is a blank like size that it would be challenging. But I ADORE dyeing the crochet chains.

I have done at least once... kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4SpnHmeo8uVi7c I feel like I did a rainbow at some point but now I'm not sure. I know I did a rainbow on WOTA yarn, so maybe that's what is in my head.

I love all your videos! But I was distracted by needing to know where you got your comfy pants??? They look like I need to buy me a few pairs 🤣
@ChemKnitsTutorials
@ChemKnitsTutorials Жыл бұрын
They were quitled joggers from Old Navy. I was floored that my size was actually still baggy like was advertised with the models. (Sometimes stores have models size up a few sizes for the baggy look.) The pants aren't sold any more, unfortunately. They are super warm and cozy with a draw string waist. I haven't tried this season's joggers from old navy to know if the fit and comfort is the same. The downside with this pair is that they pill like crazy in the wash. But otherwise I love them.

I just received 2 pounds of Merino roving and two pounds of Cheviot roving. I'm debating whether to dye them before I spin or after.
@ChemKnitsTutorials
@ChemKnitsTutorials Жыл бұрын
I would dye them first - you get so much lovely variation in the spin. This is always my preference

I was thinking on dying light blue jeans a darker blue how would I do it
@ChemKnitsTutorials
@ChemKnitsTutorials Жыл бұрын
If you don't have a lot of materials on hand and the jeans are mostly cotton based, I would get a Rit Dye in navy blue to dye the fabric in a lot of super hot water with a 5 gallon bucket. I would follow the directions and and use the color fixer after the dyeing process. Good luck!

I've tried roving, how do you not felt it?
@ChemKnitsTutorials
@ChemKnitsTutorials Жыл бұрын
I often hold my breath when I dye roving. The biggest place where I've had issues is in the rinising/washing step. make sure that you don't rub or squeeze the fiber too much when you're rinsing it out. I think this is where most people tend to have issue.
