How long on the shorter side when you start off?

Love the design and the technique of tying the 3rd color from the spool. What I can't figure out is how do you tie a lark's head around the stick when you can't pull both pieces of rope through because one is still attached to the spool? Thank you, would love to learn this technique.
@fibersofmine Жыл бұрын
Thank you Lynn! You can tie the lark's head knot using only the short end. I will make a quick tutorial on how to do it and will tag you when it's up :)

Your detailed instructions and tips are very helpful for beginners like me. Does dyeing the cord with RIT liquid dye, change the quality of the strands?
@fibersofmine9 ай бұрын
Hi Mike, It will change the cord. The strands will separate and become more "fluffy" and "wrinkled" for the lack of better words. So your cord won't be as tight as before. You still can work with the cord but the texture will be different. Also the color won't penetrate through all the strands, so when you brush our the fringe you will see some color variation which creates an interesting effect. It all depends on what you are going for. I would say, absolutely experiment with dying your own cord. I believe in learning by experience. You will definitely figure out what works for you that way. Good luck! And share what you learned :)

@@fibersofmine Thanks Sasha for your expert advice. I don’t want to mess up this macrame wall hanging, since it’s going to be a special gift. I’ve decided to purchase your recommend macrame cord, instead of dying my cord on the cheap. Thanks again for replying.
@fibersofmine9 ай бұрын
@@mikemanges Or course! You are welcome :) I think it's a better option in any case. I don't get any benefits from the companies/shops that sell cord, but unless you are going for a certain look in your work, the commercial cord is actually a cheaper option. If you calculate the cost of the dye, your time, mistakes you make while learning and not getting the results you want, doing it again and again, it might end up not as cheap as you think to dye your own cord. Although, you will learn a lot, and that worth something :)

Merci a vous 🙂 me suis abonnée 😍

Hello Sabrina, thank you for reaching out! I buy my cord mostly from Ganxxet.com. They probably would ship to Europe, but it might be expensive. You can try Bobbiny, they are based in Europe. If you are not a member of the Macrame for Beginners group on Facebook, you might want to check them out and join. Here is a link to the blog article on where to buy cord. macrameforbeginners.com/where-to-buy-macrame-cords-near-me/ You could also ask members of the group who live in your country where they buy their cord. I hope this helps :)

Beautiful! How much cord do I need in total?
@fibersofmine2 жыл бұрын
Hi Alessandra, I give all the measurements in the introduction of the video. if you are going to use four colors like I do in the video, you will need 26 feet of the light blue in total, 420 feet of the medium blue in total, 48 feet of the dark blue in total, and I can't really tell you how much of the teal accent color I used, because the technique I show in the video doesn't require measuring. Hope this helps.

Hi Michele, It is 12" wide and about 11.5" long. the length will depend on how long or short you will cut the fringe though.

How long on the shorter side when you start off?
@fibersofmine2 жыл бұрын
I usually estimate by holding the cord on both sides so it creates a U shape around the middle part and eyeballing it to see if the ends are more or less equal after I tie the larks head knots on both sides plus whatever distance I need to go around the middle. You can be more precise, of course, and tie your larks head knot, use a pencil or pen to mark the cord, then untie it and see how long that part of larks head knot took. Add the distance for the middle part and that is how much longer your cord will have to be. I hope this makes sense :)
