I refuse to pronounce it the way Nevada-inonians wish for it to be. It's a Spanish word. If people can get mad at Americans for pronouncing 'zebra' wrong, then getting on Nevada's case is fine by me.
@KairuHakubi3 жыл бұрын
wow I had no idea, Zebra has a latin root too so you're right, the UK version is the correct one. Speaking of Z, I feel like I'm the only one who pronounces zoo properly. it's zo-o. zo-ology, not zoo-ology.
@RabblesTheBinx3 жыл бұрын
But that's _not_ how the Spanish "a" sounds. It's in-between the "ă" (as in apple) and "aw" (as in awesome) sounds, but it's closer to the former.

@justinperez9773 жыл бұрын
It’s not Spain Spanish. Originates from Mexican Spanish as most of those regions previously were inhabited by Mexicans. So while I understand that words and pronunciations evolve over time, I don’t think anyone should be called wrong for pronouncing it with a Spanish inflection given it’s origin.

Settlers change pronunciations over time of certain things despite their origin. Arin is correct that it is a Spanish word so saying it with the Spanish a sound sounds a lot better than saying the a as if it were the word apple. It stems from ignorance of culture at the time and was just never changed or questioned as time went on.
@dev-n-dragons70053 жыл бұрын
@@justinperez977 Fair enough, so basically it's just been pronounced different from the origin for so long that it's a different word now?

@@dev-n-dragons7005 basically, yeah. Similar to how Houston Street in New York is pronounced differently from the city of Houston. Locals deemed it to be different, therefore it is. No real rhyme or reason behind it to be completely honest.
