Season 04, Episode 84: Joe Catania, aka Papa Joe, is my father and a medical entrepreneur that has been my main inspiration and supporter in everything that I have done in life. His passion for living life to the fullest is totally infectious and he consistently pushes me to be the best person I can be every single day. I am incredibly grateful for Joe keeping me sharp, reminding me to never back down and letting me know that every day is a battle - a war with the person I was yesterday and who I aim to be in the future.

I am truly grateful for Joe being an active father in my life. There isn't a day that goes by where we don't text each other, chat on the phone quick or have some sort of correspondence about our passion for life and what activity we are excited for next. This video contains strong opinions that people may not agree with and/or may find abrasive/intense. This is the cloth I was cut from and I become more and more appreciative for it as I grow older.

Joe comes very close to fully reflecting my philosophy of life as I get older. I hope I get to meet him one day. I would say he should take off to New Zealand with you - I think his diet needs should not be too hard to manage, you might get some odd looks but it won't be impossible. I'm originally Australian - New Zealand is beautful and it will be an unforgettable trip together. I think the diet & exercise requirements can be mananged by smart planning and choice-of-stay, but can't promise much on the jetlag side.

My dad used to ski, but I never got to ski with him. We went to the beach in the early 80s and he got partially paralyzed bodysurfing in a wipeout while I was alongside boogieboarding. I learned to ski with his old ski's in 1984 as part of a school trip to Mammoth. I picked up skiing and later snowboarding quicker than other sports, but wish he could have witnessed or been a part of it. Growing up and having kids of my own, it has been great snowboarding with and watching my daughters progress. I hope to be their "Papa Joe" when I hit my 60's. I already have a trip with them planned for next winter back in Mammoth.

Interesting interview. We all make choices in life. Some good, some bad, but they define us, for better or worse. One choice i made was to move out east from my family. Was only supposed to be for a few years but here i am 15 years later with 4 kids and a home. I don't see my family much and i definitely don't ski with them anymore. Unfortunately, i don't know if I'll ever ski with my mom or dad again while they are alive. Enjoy and cherish those moments. They are fleeting.

The love and admiration you and Joe have for each other is inspirational. Joe's determination to live life with purpose and to the fullest is so impressive and I'm so glad you are carrying on that outlook on life. I'm certain your sisters do too. Absolutely love this one. What a pleasure it was to meet you and Joe at Road America with my boys. It was great for me, when we walked back to your trailer, to spend some time talking to Joe. He shared some great wisdom, and the pride he has in you is evident from a mile away. My kids even commented on it, which is not something kids of their ages would normally recognize. He has definitely nailed the good, kind, and focused part, and has obviously instilled it in you as well! As I told him when I introduced myself, he is an inspiration to me and now to my boys. Thanks for sharing Lucas and Joe!

Phenomenal video. I really enjoyed this one. One question I would have for myself is how do I get my skiing legs back? I’ve not been skiing for quite some time until recently due to coat mainly and being busy raising our kids. I still love it and though I cannot go as often as I’d like I still need my legs back. Feel extremely week right now. I really appreciate papa Joes example. I’m almost 47 now and want to continue my adventure on the snow as long as possible. Thanks

thanks paul! i am glad you found some value in it. thats a good question - i could ask him directly at some point but just off the top of my head, obviously getting into the gym and starting with light things like rear squats and other leg exercises, riding the bike etc - but ultimately skiing will be the true way to get the legs back. you still have so much life ahead of you with your kids. thanks for watching!

Lucas I can’t wait for the east coast trip, I live in the east coast and ski in the northeast a ton during the winter, hope to see you out here! What made you decide to make a east coast trip
@LucasCatania17

there is no east coast trip. is just a theoretical if the channel ever hits 100,000 subscribers.

@@LucasCatania17 we are rooting for you to hit 100k! We think the east coast trip would make for amazing videos. the conditions are so variable and the tree skiing is so tight. Would be really cool.

Hey Lucas do you have an email? I'm thinking of potentially moving to Utah for the winter and just had some questions. I thought maybe you could help me out as my main motivation going out there is to ski. I'm from the east coast like yourself. I have been out there twice including last year to park city and obviously it's amazing. Thanks! Congrats on 50k
