I don’t think that’s exactly accurate… I mean it is to an extent. Because techland was working on an IP, they had investors. Investors have to be pleased. Just as we at our jobs have to do what our bosses want, or we get fired. If they want to make a game they have to make the game the investors want them to make. The first game was a passion project. The second game they had expectations to uphold. And I think we saw a power struggle between what techland wanted to create and what they were forced to create. And I think that’s why the game was pretty shaky at first. One of them didn’t want to make a zombie game. And I think it was techland sadly. But they had to make a dying light game. So they tried changing a lot, specifically making human enemies the focus. (Which I think changed because of fan criticism before launch) but my point is, they only have so much control over what they make now. Because they need someone else’s money to make it. And that’s true for practically every AAA title, every big budget movie, every major company really. People just don’t usually know it.

We know techland listens to fans. Hell, in the first game they asked the public what they wanted added into the game the most. The public said vehicles. Which everyone wanted, but everyone also knew was an impossible ask. It could never happen. The game wasn’t made with vehicles in mind. But techland did it anyway…. They made an entirely new map with vehicles in mind, somehow implemented vehicles that operated PERFECTLY into the world without changing the way the environment worked. And also made the vehicle still feel like an apocalypse vehicle with survival and crafting in mind. It was truly unbelievable. But they did it because they wanted to please the fans. Who at THAT time were the true investors. They still care about what the fans want. But they aren’t bankrolling their own games now. They don’t get the final say. So when it comes to this elysium thing (which honestly I’m not too familiar with, from what I understand it was an earlier version of the game they showed at e3 and then the game changed) I’m guessing it changed after e3 due to the response it got. Now, whether elysium was techlands game or the investors game, who knows. But one of them decided it wasn’t going to work because it didn’t get the hype they expected. But we don’t know who pulled the plug on it.
