Dying My Hair with Kitchen Spices?! Turmeric Hair Dye | Evelina Forsell

If a small amount of washing-soda is mixed with the turmeric, the color instantly changes to red(ish. More like maroon.) Ammonia does this too, but with ammonia, it only lasts for half an hour. With turmeric yellow hair, try turning it red-purple by using warm water with some Arm and Hammer washing soda laundry-booster. Turmeric becomes extremely yellow in acid, dark magenta in alkaline. Once it's red, use some (smelly) vinegar to switch it yellow again. Or, just wash well to get rid of the alkaline, to turn it back to turmeric yellow. I colored some white cotton towels, washclothis, and a lab-coat bright red color using boiling water, Turmeric, and washing-soda called "Laundry Booster." Turns bright yellow again, using a squirt-gun with dilute vinegar. Restore the red with squirt gun of "laundry booster" washing-soda in water. Or just wash well to remove the alkaline and get back to turmeric yellow. I bet this works on the hair. (Don't squirt your own eyes!!) Tibetan monks had to re-dye their turmeric yellow robes every few months, even though they were traditionally living down inside stone monestaries lighted only by yak-butter oil lamps. I find that after many days, sunlight will bleach out the yellow and red. Even fluorescent room-lights will dull the colors after a week or two.

@@kelseycrites9251 In cloth, it appears to bleach out in sunlight. Even under fluorescent room lights it only lasts a couple of weeks. Tibetan monks had their robes periodically re-dyed, even though they stayed down in stone monestaries lit by yak-butter lamps.

Haha neat to see this! I decided to dye my hair with turmeric after seeing this video. Made a giant mess. I used a cleaner that also had some bleach in it and was surprised when I sprayed the stains and it all turned bright red hahah Had no idea this was a thing (Also the Clorox house cleaner with bleach in it completely removed turmeric stains with zero effort. For anyone who needs easy clean up tips)

Jeanette Prado Tumeric weakens your hair. Many natural remedies use it as the main ingredient for hair removal. I imagine in the short run would be fine, but if used as a regular hair dye it will probably damage your hair a lot.

The result is amazing and the color is great. However, I would not often use this method, since I have always read that the turmeric in the long run weakens the hair. The turmeric is found in many natural hair removal recipes. I do not know how true it really is but I would be cautious to use it often on the hair of the head

I dyed my hair with turmeric after watching this video and honestly, my hair have never been worse after that. It was super dry and I couldn't even brush through it. My suggestion is that you dont do it

Izabelle i tested on a small portion and the dye part just didnt happen at all for me, it didnt stick on the brown hair i guess, and it doesnt feel as good as the rest of my hair even after washing... so im gonna try with a lottt more spice tomorrow and see if that was it but idk i think this isnt going positively , so dont rush in the kitchen to find the curcuma

Charlotte well it depends on how often do you wash your hair. I wash mine every 3 days, I've washed 3 times since I did it and its still yellow. Not as bright but definitely still wereable. I had my hair suuuuper bleached and with a green base, just saying :)

So I usually wear my hair reddish like a black ginger and I bleached my hair for a little lift on the new growth. When I rinsed it out I liked it, but there lines of demarcation in some spots. I just happened to be doing a turmeric mask and asked myself would turmeric work by adding the yellowish orange tint so I just dumped a mixture in my hair I was in love. It looks amazing and it reminds me of Lush Cosmetics hennas!! Love your hair!!! Wish I knew this when I was neon lol

Mixed with conditioner and black coffee to tone it down, I use this for my almost white hair. It looks more flattering mixed with strong black coffee which makes appear more natural.

Definitely gonna try this. I already tried to dye my hair with paprika, if you want orange/red hair, it works great!

turmeric is also great as a face scrub or just to add it to your face mask. it stains the skin [but the yellow helps to get rid of redness on the skin] I'm sure there are a lot of videos on youtube about how great turmeric is :)
