In this video I go over some tips for dying, painting, and antiquing leather. This process can be used for most every leather project where tooling has been done. Be sure to head over to my Instagram @attacklineleather

Awesome man. I do knife sheaths and am learning to make them a little more artistic. Did you call that sealer Tan Coat? I have some spray art sealers and wonder if they’d work?

It might. Test on some scrap first lol

Great videos & talent! #NewSubscriber 👍 I’m going to be painting leather cuff style bracelets (1st time trying), do I need to prep them with something before painting. The color of cuffs I purchased are white, black & brown .

Thanks for the support. I paint and dye mainly veg tan leather, but I do know that Angeles has some paints that will work well. I dont do any prep of the leather before I paint. I do add a finish at the end when everything dry

Yet another stellar instructional video. I've had that dauber issue; re: fibre fuzz settling into your work. It's irritating, isn't it! So I'll carefully singe the dauber before applying Tan-Kote to the project. Love the 'hat patch' idea. Thanks for the inspiration. Think I'll make me one. Lastly, I appreciate the nature of your videos. They are not so overwhelming that I think, "Man, that's overwhelming". On the contrary, it's like, "Hey, I can do that". So thanks man. And two questions, what leather weight are you using, and what are the patch dimensions in this video? (Oops! Just learned from another video, you're using 5-6oz veg tan leather).

Great video bud. Did you glue and then stitch the patch to the hat? I wanna try this.
@AttackLineLeather5 жыл бұрын
Thank you soo much. Yes I added a bit of contact cement to just the back of the leather. It held in place well enough for me to stitch it. If you are hand stitching be sure to pre punch your holes in the leather before gluing

How would you recommend finishing leather motorcycle grips that have been tooled and antiqued or should the antiquing be left out for something that your hands will be gripping a lot? Is there a clear finish that I can rub, brush or spray on that is tough and will hold up? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for the tutorial 👍

After you apply final layer of tan kote or whatever finish you choose, you can use saddle lac. It comes in a spray can and does well to seal in your work.

What brand is the dye? How do you get it to not turn the white dingy?! I’m beyond frustrated Im using a dark brown and it keeps leaching into my white paint turning it yellow. Please help does the tan kote work for that? You didn’t put a layer in between ?
@AttackLineLeather4 жыл бұрын
The dye i use is the Fiebings pro dyes. I use Fiebings antique paste over the white after a full layer or tan kote has dried first. After apply the paste, immediately wipe it off and get a kew tip with tan kote on it and clean off the white. The whites will always be a little duller

I’m using Feibings and Angelous but the dye is turning the paint yellow.

@@sarahmattingly4267 no dye should touch the white paint.

I’m not painting over where I’m dying it’s just close up to the side
@AttackLineLeather4 жыл бұрын
@@sarahmattingly4267 are you painting or dying first? I always dye first so that the paint will cover anything up. Also be sure the dye is fully dried before painting
