Campbell Scott really committed to this role. You can see the physical transformation from sickly to healthy to sickly again throughout the course of the film. And I love the scene where he meets Estelle for the first time, played by his real-life mother, Colleen Dewhurst. It makes me tear up because she is one of my all-time favorite actress. Great casting all the way around.

I wonder if those saying that Campbell Scott didn’t manage to give a memorable performance actually watched the movie. Everyone agrees with Julia being a versatile actress, but while she stays true to her typical acting, Campbell becomes one with his character. You can sense through the screen that he feels Victor under his skin. Julia surely made a great job, but Campbell literally overcame himself. The expressiveness of his face and the way he speaks with his eyes, the way he moves his hands while dancing or pressing play on a walkman, his elegance while doing the simplest things such as sitting down or opening a book, the delicacy he shows while caressing Julia or simply looking at her on the sidelines. He’s brilliant: only a talent like this can perceive such a number of facets and put an effort into giving voice to every one of them. Through Campbell you can see Victor to the point of telling yourself: if he understood this character so far as to lend his heart to another man’s pain, then he must be not just an amazing actor, but a wonderful person too. I mean, such empathy has to come from a very capacious heart. Btw: wonderful ensemble. I always come here when I feel like reliving this story. This is my all-time favorite movie. ♥️

This movie broke my heart and I loved it at the same time. I love when drama is built into a romantic movie as I don't often choose to watch many romantic movies for personal reasons but this was terrific. It has to offer more than the typical boy meets girl, boy looses girl they they get back together. My brain needs something more substancial. Loved this soundtrack. Also love any picture that can take me on journey with landscapes I have yet to see. I say yet because now I am traveling having retired early from the work world due to illness. Nice editing job. I was so hoping someone was offering this movie free right now on YT.

Watched this movie which touched my Heart nursing a brother in law with cancer who die later at the age of 50. Then nursing my own husband in his senior years with a very weak Heart also dying in my arms in the shower. It breaks your Heart when you spend a Life Time with them to lose your Best Friend your lover and most of all your Soulmate. God gifted me a person who filled my Life with Happiness and four children. Miss him so much. Widow of 76.

Beautiful compilation; beautiful music! This is put together so well, it's like a running snapshot of what happens in this movie. I was especially touched by the brief moment with Colleen Dewhurst, Campbell Scott's own mother and a great actress in her own right, who died just a few months later. This movie is sad, hopeful, despairing, and joyful, running the gamut of human emotions in turn, and shows the beauty and range of these two young actors. Well done!

cesar ... Amazon Prime is usually where I rent my movies but I see they don't have it and normally they have hard to find movies. Don't know if any other internet movie rental companies have it available but you may want to consider buying the DVD on Ebay or Amazon.com. There's a few used pre-owned cheap DVD's of the movie on Ebay $8.00, 6.95 (mint condition), 7.24 just to name a few. If you don't have a DVD player you can get a cheap one at the Dollar store, or play it on a Blue Ray/DVD player plugged into your TV or will even play on your computer if you have a desktop. If there's a movie I want to see bad enough and can't find any place to rent it online I just find a cheap copy of the DVD and buy it. Just food for thought. Trust me, the investment in this DVD movie is well worth it and more (the movie is THAT good)! Good Luck! :)

I thought I was the only one who didn't like Gordon, he seemed like a character with other intentions. It was obvious that he liked Hilary and Victor probably realized that and was jealous. Gordon danced very close to Hilary near the end of the movie, Gordon called himself Victor's friend but to me he wasn't like that. They didn't delve much into the character in the movie because I'm sure Gordon wasn't a good person at all.
