A death trap is a situation where if no outside action is taken, you die. '67 Batman ended on Cliffhangers with them usually in a death trap and them escaping in part 2 so yes it's a death trap. Wheatly is a moron so it's an easily avoided deathtrap but still a death trap.

It wasn't "designed" by wheatley to be avoided, so it was a trap. Your portal gun is just a means to escape the trap.
@Erick-kl2do
@Erick-kl2do 2 жыл бұрын
But then you remember that Wheatley Is a moron that it doesn't even know how to make a properly test chamber by his own. Plus the treadmill is not fast enought to make imposible to cross through It, so it's an option... That ironically had worked better as a test chamber rather than a Death Trap... Still a Moron, anyways.

Gonna be an outlier and say I don't want a sequel to Portal 2, but something more related to Rattman. I feel like Portal 2 had a wonderful closing, and not everything needs another sequel, yknow? But i think it more about the "in the story perspective". Sure you'd have to move to die, but if it was "real life" and you were to just do nothing, you'd also die. From Wheatley's perspective, he could've said it was a death trap because either you had to go in the compactor and die or you had to just stay stuck for eternity and die (and using the portal gun is escaping the trap, it's an obvious way of escaping but well, it'd be a wheatley trap so...)

It would be fun to see what a third Portal game would end up like. Personally I'm more of a fan of the first games focus on space and portals than the seconds order of operations and tool use (gels, light bridges, launch pads etc.) I wonder what would be kept from either version, dropped and added fresh. The dropped sticky gel looked really fun and something I'd love to have played with. I get the issue of disorientation as I had that experience playing Alien vs Predator as the xenomorphs a long time ago. But after getting past the initial confusion it's a great addition to spacial exploration.

Its a death trap because of the conveyor belt. You cant outrun it so you have to find a unofficial way. The only thing that could have been changed is the exit. Making it a little bit more risky to get of it so its actually escaping a trap instead of exiting. The easy exit makes it actually like a death option but both are valid and the dialogue is more funny this way.

What we have here is a difference in perspective. The writer believes this to be a death trap because the character he’s writing for has full intent to kill you. The game designer sees it as a death option because his perspective moreso represents the player, who’s designed to avoid death, but can definitely choose death with (relatively speaking) little consequence. The thing is, a trap is inherently defined by its intent, not its viability. Was Wile E Coyote just setting up death *options* for the Roadrunner all those years? No, his full intent was to kill and eat the Roadrunner! Whether its avoidable or not doesn’t change the devices intent- to trap and kill you. Death trap. 100% agree with the writer and I wish I was a fly on the wall for this pleasant conversation lol

I'd imagine the next half life to have gorden go through that diorama ride so he can find out about aperture science, on his way to finding out more about the combine in general, since gorden doesn't really know much about the combines' capabilities, and the A.I cores can teach him about consciousness transferral, eventually leading him to make a way to defeat the combine through aperture tech. I'd imagine the next portal would be a VR exclusive where Gman informs Alyx at the start he needs something that won't shut up about consciousness transferrral from an aperture facility, and so she goes through a bunch of test chambers, without the portal gun, meets chell, meets glados, meets gorden, whom she doesn't know, then helps chell who wants to help gorden who has to help glados in order to defeat the combine. I'd imagine gorden and chell communicate only through gestures alone, but are both bad-ass enough to recognise someone else badass, and maybe they have to stay silent so a xen creature like jeff can't react to them talking. lol.

i think thats awesome theres a possibility for a portal 3 but i'm so curious as to how they'd even pull it off. The way Portal 2 ended felt like such a great ending how it was minimal but so powerful, so to make a direct sequel from that feels like it would cheapen the ending unless we get new test subjects or maybe the return of Atlas and P Body. Either way i'm excited for what this could mean for the return of gamings greatest villain Glados and hearing Ellen Mcclaine one last time X3

Why would something being avoidable make it not a death trap?

It's so amazing to see how much passion Erik and Josh have for the Portal universe! I'm so glad they have an idea for Portal 3 and can't express just how much I want to see it happen! Portal for PS3 was the first Valve game I ever played and it got me interested in Half-Life just because of how good the storytelling is! Now I've got Steam on my computer and have spent far too much money on games, including all the Portal and Half-Life content my computer can run. 😅

Manifold Garden did the shifting perspective and something similar to portals with the infinite repeating levels that you could jump off to land on top of and shift perspective to walk under and around. A lot of people, myself included, really enjoyed that game and were not totally sickened by the puzzles. I think the shifting perspective feature could fit right in with Portal and work fine.

A trap usually implies something that the victim is not aware of, and you are CLEARLY aware of the mashing thing, so i would also say that it is not a death trap but indeed more of an option for death.

"I don't know how that would of made people sick, there's been upside down and wall side sections in other games before and those didn't make me sick or confused" did those other games have portals in them? because i've seen quite a few players get disoriented by using portals so maybe having players use portals while on the walls/ceiling would have been a step too far.

At the recent AGDQ, a speedrunner showcased the airboat% category, and this reminded me that I never finished Portal or Portal 2, ever, although I own both. So what I ended up doing was to finish Portal 2 in one day (a long one, to be fair) and be very slightly obsessing over Portal content on youtube x). A Portal 3 would be amazing, I would definitively buy and play it! It's super interesting and I enjoyed the games a lot. ^^

It's not a "Death Trap" if you can easily see something that can, is, and trying to kill you like one of the turrets patrolling an area, and it gives someone time to think about how to overcome it. It's a trap if it's unexpected or a surprise to the victim and is activated by some seemingly unrelated action like walking into an empty room. That masher is clearly visible and allows the player to think about how to avoid it, more accurately it's a "Death Obstacle."
