That’s what I was thinking. At first I was like “damn that’s really slow” but they really started taking off but what I was even more amazed is how long it has to burn fuel to get up there. That’s not a few gallons that’s hundreds of gallons.
@DebraJean19610 күн бұрын
The plane is plenty far out. That is a busy flight corridor. The rocket’s course will take it directly out over the ocean away from land - and if there is the slightest sign of deviation from its assigned flight path the Flight Termination System (FTS) would be triggered. Due to the immense amount of air traffic in and around the Cape and the Space Force Base, as well as the increasing cadence of rocket launches, the FAA has to schedule things this way. Otherwise essential flight corridors could be dramatically affected for 2-3 hours at a time multiple times per week. Please note, this is a Falcon 9 launch. The Falcon launched successfully over 130 times in 2024. They had 3 flight anomalies that all occurred on landing or to second stages well beyond anywhere that endangered people. When rockets that have a less proven flight record are launched I’d imagine that perhaps the launches are scheduled for a less heavily travelled time of day and perhaps the closure margins are a bit larger.

She said she yelled out ‘Awesome!’ because she felt like it was so cool that it went up in a puff of smoke and fire. She didn’t understand why the rest of the flight was so silent. Falcon 9 has had 414 successful missions with only 4 of them being failures. F9 (along with every other orbital launch vehicle in the United States) is equipped with flight termination system explosives to destroy the rocket if anything goes wrong. @juschu858 күн бұрын
Why? Because after the video stopped, everything that was filmed will also stop and any movement seen in the video should not be extrapolated? Cool. That means the spinning top in Inception actually stopped at the end of the movie and Cobb is awake. Or does your subjective perception tell you the rocket gets slower and slower and slower. First, with the camera man zooming in and out and in and out, it's not really easy to see if it actually APPEARS to slow down. But that's exactly it. Even if it looks like it's slowing down that doesn't mean it actually does slow down. That's just the perspective. Rockets start straight and then slowly turn sideways into an angel to get horizontal speed to enter an orbit. An orbit goes around the Earth, not in a straight line away from it. When rockets turn sideways, for safety reasons, they start flying above the sea and not above the ground. The plane is above the ground. The guy filming is looking at the sea. So the rocket is slowly converting it's vertical speed into horizontal speed directed away from the plane. Vertical speed would be be perpendicular to the direction of view, horizontal speed away from the plane would be parallel to the direction of view. The former one changes where you have to look, so it appears to be fast. The latter one will just make you look at the same point, so it appears to be slow. Of course, the rocket did not yet reach that extreme yet, so it's still not moving completely horizontally and is still moving upwards. So depending on your point of view, rockets appear to slow down when they ascent. Okay, but wouldn't that mean the rocket would also slowly appear to be smaller because it's getting further away? As I already stated, the rocket has not yet fully turned horizontally, so it's not horizontally going away from the plane with its full speed. Also, that visual affect of things moving away from you slowly getting smaller depends on the relative change of distance. When you're standing 6 feet away from me and then get 6 feet further away from me, you doubled your distance and thus you appear half as big in my field of view. But if you are already several miles away from me and the go 6 feet further away from me, that wouldn't really have the same effect to your size in my field of view. Mathematically that's just a simple rule of three. That shows it's not about the increase of absolute distance in mph, it's about the increase of relative distance in %ph. And this rocket is already very far away from the plane. Something very far away going even further away, won't get that much smaller in your field of view very quickly. You're welcome. Take that free education. But I assume you'll just toss it away into the next trash bin and get some conspiracy theory fast food instead. Well, it was worth a try. And something like this is always funny.

I think that is a potential risk that you can get that close on a plane when a rocket is launching. Here in Boston, the lane will be blocked for two miles on any highway for two guys to patch a hole
@misty.gt24322 күн бұрын
There is FAA restrictions that prevent it from going within 5 miles, and I’m pretty sure this was inside that restriction. I don’t know how the pilots didn’t see it.

Very surprised there wasn’t a TFR for that airspace but very cool to see that close in sure.

It had to be near the minimum of distance allowable,or you would see the plane banking away to the right,I would assume.

Wow that provides a better perspective on how rockets are literally hauling ass as they launch. You don’t get that perspective standing on the ground.

I guess something is fake with this clip. Probably a film from a authorized special flight and here they have added that voice over. In almost every fake video of spectacular things involving planes there are children in the background to create the feeling of being genuine.

Falcon 9 has had 414 successful missions with only 4 of them being failures. F9 (along with every other orbital launch vehicle in the United States) is equipped with flight termination system explosives to destroy the rocket if anything goes wrong. Even before the launch, temporary flight restrictions are put into place by the FAA to not let planes get anywhere near the rocket or its flight path along with NOTAMS to not let people on boats have a risk of being harmed in the event of a disaster.

Crazy how little smoke etc there is compared to the old nasa rocket launching.
@djijspeakerguy46283 күн бұрын
Yeah these liquid fueled rocket engines seem quite clean-burning in comparison to the old solid rocket boosters on the sides of the space shuttle and other similarly designed rockets, which leave behind a cloud of white smoke. The liquid fueled engines can also be reused which SRB’s couldn’t. If this was a falcon 9 booster it’s a RP1 fuel and oxygen mixture. (RP1 is essentially a super refined kerosene.) If it was a super-heavy booster for the Starship program, it uses the same engines as Starship itself, which are fueled by methane instead of kerosene, partially because methane can be manufactured on Mars.
