I remember when we were in first grade, our teacher came running to our class calling us outside all excited. We all jumped at her excitement and followed her to see a rainbow just outside the premises. It was so fun, and looking back she could've ignored it, but she took the time knowing how it would make us first graders feel. I know it's not related to the eclipse, but this reminded me of that incident somehow. Appreciate her.

Upstate NY, literally went pitch black, was in sodus bay NY most foreigners to New York clogged up the parks so we had to park on an old street where there was space, the frogs chirped like it was night. Same as the birds. Cloudy ash but wow. Absolutely mind blowing watching the shadow completely fall over the clouds and slowly sweep over us. Totality took a moment, once we fell under it was like I said pitch black except for the horizon… you could see the moons shadow slowly cast over, after the daylight came back it was so much quicker than when it set on. Absolutely surreal. Def traveling for the next one.

Well actually god didnt do this, the moon moved between Earth and the sun. The moon’s orbit, depending on how it is defined is between about 27 and 29 days long. But our moon’s orbit is tilted with respect to Earth’s orbit around the sun by about five degrees. the moon, itself, is only about ½ degree in width in the sky, about ½ the width of your pinky finger held at arm’s length. So, sometimes the moon misses too high and sometimes too low to cause a solar eclipse. Only when the sun, moon, and Earth line up close to the “line of nodes”, the imaginary line that represents the intersection of the orbital planes of the moon and Earth, can you have an eclipse.

I drove 5 hours to take my 4 year old daughter, mother in law, sister in law and brother in law to almost the Canadian border in NH to see 100% totality for almost 3 and a half minutes. It was INCREDIBLE. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky. The town we stopped in normally has a population of less than 300, and the roads were packed. We found a state park that basically was just these areas to pull over on the side of a river and we did just that. We got there early and brought chairs but by the time the eclipse happened people were shoulder to shoulder there… people just pulling over to the side of the road to stop and see. Everyone was crying and screaming for joy. It was an unreal experience that was worth every minute of the drive. I’ll never forget that and I won’t ever see anything like that again in my lifetime. I hope my daughter is old enough to remember because it was an unreal experience.

Here in Indiana schools were closed because of the solar eclipse. I went to my son’s home to make a core memory with my three grandchildren, ages of 6, 8 and 9 years old. My oldest grandson was very upset that it didn’t get very dark. He ended up going to his bedroom and pouting!

Looks like a dark one with night jump scares in it in a world war 💀

In the airplane above the clouds was the coolest for me.

That’s definitely some editing. I was literally less than a mile from the exact center of totality and the darkest it got was sunset.

Dude, it is better irl, the eclipse irl looks the same as the videos and stuff but with a glowing edges moon and some eerie details like solar prominences looking like a red pixel

What a cool school! It's not really that dark - the camera didn't adjust as she zoomed out so it looked darker. But yes, it is much darker compared to just a few minutes before. So odd seeing the sun 'dying' before your eyes. I've seen four now, and always get an uneasy feeling of impending doom as totality approaches even though I know I'm not in any danger. It's so weird.

This was gonna happen to me at school, but the clouds blocked it so I have to wait another 20 years
